OK, looks like there's going to be an album or tour entitled 'Xenophobia', at least there are tour shirts proposed on the NPGMC site with that name, logo, etc.

Question: what the HECK is that for a theme? That's just like having a tour/album called "RACISM". I would assume the slant would be "against" Xenophobia... but...???

Insight? Opinions?

My guess is that Prince is expanding the definition of "xenophobia" as meaning "fear of anything new or different", and extending that to the music that will be on the album...and of course he's featuring "strangers and foreigners" as guest artists on the CD as well, so that concept kinda ties together...

And actually, I think "Racism" would make a cool album title..lol...that, or "Ferrets, Ferrets, Everywhere Ferrets"...

Don't we already kow that there is going to be an album called Xenophobia? Isn't that one of the 4 that members of this years NPGMC will receive?

As we know, the tour is called One Night Alone (I think that one of the last MP3's from last year's club was from an album with this tile). Not sure if this was also one of this years club CD's.

As for what kind of music Xenophobia will contain, I'm kinda expecting some experimantal Rock guitar type of Sound. Wasn't something in this vein requested by visitors to the first Celebration in 2000? At the same time the Piano album was requested, so it looks as if Prince might be giving the fans what they asked for this year. Come to think about it, I believe one of the other NPGMC CD's was going to be "pure Prince", which people have been asking for.

Wouldn't it be great if not only we got all of these Discs from the Club, but we also got another one in the stores? Would this be an overdose of Prince?

I'm intrigued by the idea that he would name the album that. Have you all seen a poster that says "Immigrants are not the ememy, they are just our leaders scapegoats. Xenophbia Kills."? It would stand to reason that he is trying to make a political statement of some type.

Xenophobia doesn't necessarily denote racism, at least not 2 me. What I think of when I hear that word is not so much hatred as it is fear. Actual xenophobia is exhibited in certain places where an indiginous culture has been isolated 4 an extended period of time, and they fear the outside world. Not because they feel outsiders are inferior or because they look different, but because they fear that the introduction of foreigners into their culture will result in the loss of that culture and their heritage. The Japanese are a good modern example of this. This is not a negative comment on the Japanese by any means, but for thousands of years they lived alone on their island, free of outside influence from anywhere in the world, and only in the past (I am approximating here) 150 years have they truly become involved in world affairs. Even now it is extremely difficult for a foreigner to penetrate the japanese world, even in business. An American who marries a Japanese citizen will be treated politely, but it might be years before they are truly accepted into any social group or they might never be. This is because the introduction of an outsider into the social group disrupts the harmony of the group, and in Japanese culture harmony is of highest importance. So xenophobia does not necessarily denote racism or hatred. I won't be able to develop an opinion on what Prince is implying by using this as an album title until I hear the music. But, given his track record, I don't think this is going to be a negative piece by any means. More than likely, it will be a statement on the differences between cultures, what this means to us as human beings, and what the concept of xenophobia means to Prince. Now that I've written all this, I can't wait 4 the CD to be released so I can find out!
