You probably had this thought in mind, Prince likely directed this video. I don't think he wants to give Grammy's any more free labor for his performances.

Oh man, I hope nobody sinks THAT low. I wouldn't even try to turn Only into Bart.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
At least Bart is paying attention. And what he writes is true. Of course people don't like his delivery as criticism is still very unexpected. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

So RD to sum it up. The actual music tracks are fine. But pass on the video? I just don't want to waste my time.

Bart isn't paying a bit of attention. He has a personal vendetta against Prince and carries it out on this website because he knows Prince/his people read this site.
Prince could record a song that has the secret to curing cancer and Bart would screech about it being "the same old stuff".
I wish he would go away. It'd be one thing if his criticism was constructive, but you know as well as I do that all he's doing is carrying on a personal grudge with Prince.

Absolutely right, too many people have the idea it's their god-given right that you don't pay for music. We all get paid for the work that we do(of course we should all get paid more..), and just like you and I wouldn't bother fronting up if there were no dollars, either will these sites.
These sites are beta version to test whether people will put their money where their mouth is and ultimately whether the model will be sustainable. In a positive development there's even a choice of formats, which will hopefully get extended to the audio product too.
It was rather amusing that some people spent all day on the 10th moaning about when is it going to drop, but when it came to parting with their money realised they didn't really want it that bad.
Not that I'm advocating that people should blindly buy everything put up for sale on the sites. You dont like what's available this time, move on, maybe next time there will be something that you would like to buy. Personally I've bought the single because I like the song, and this live video because I want me some raw guitars. Prince delivered on time with product, price and no cowbells.
I didn't buy the other 3 products because I found them unsuitable.
... and for those trying to shutdown discussion. This site being a forum, it's ineveitable that you may come across opinions where you disagree, "toughen up princesses!"

Another good version of Screwdriver. Too bad that the intro with the dialogue is silly and badly acted, it drags down the overall impression.

VLC is your friend, my video has been converted to Audio and edited from door closing to give 5:50 of uninterrupted guitars. [Edited 2/11/13 9:14am] Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

I thought that performance of the song itself was stellar. However, I had to wince at the "dancers" doing the twist. Not at all visually appealing. It would have been good it it had just been the intro and the performance. Speaking of the intro, WTF. The girls, I expected bad acting. But wwhy does prince pick guys who look like they think they're cool, happening, whatever, and come off the exact opposite? The brotha doing the talking was wayyyy too much.

Great version of Screwdriver, I love the guitar playing but I don't like the video that much, I prefer the first screwdriver video with lyrics Welcome 2 The Dawn

Criticism is sometimes justified but Bart criticises everything single thing. If there is no joy to be found in anything Prince does, there's really no reason to be posting here.
And what he writes isn't true. At best it's his opinion but mostly it's just hate for the sake of it.
If Prince released a flawlessly remastered box sets with bonus outtake discs, it would still be shit because someone else did it before. RIP

The Sexy M.F. VHS that had only the 1 long-form video cost about $10 if I remember correctly. Of course, IN MY OPININION, it was worth more than this simply because it was a physical product that could be collected and/or resold as opposed to a digital file that "disappears in a day"...
Anyway, point being, the price is fair.

wait...who the hell is 3rdeyegirl? I don't keep up with this shit as much as I used to...is she the drummer? And even so, the brotha still comes off as trying way too hard to be cool, which is, of course, the anthesis of actually being cool.

i don't know why anyone who's been a prince fan for over a decade would be surprised or disappointed by this video.
come on, the second that trailer went live you could tell it was another one of those typical paisley park productions.
i guess i was just happy that this time 'round no pretty girls were making desparate phonecalls and throwing up on the carpet or beautiful women going mad rocking back n forth with their hands on their heads screaming at their computer screens
but, like most other shoddily acted PP productions, the music at least rocks along nicely. great version of the song indeed.
however, the intro and the ending of the video has left me trembling and sweating in fear he's gonna film "grafitty bridge part 2"
please not another band rivalry flick
instead of that skit, i would have loved if he'd just put up the whole of the rehearsal (including bambi and god knows what else). he wouldn't have had to get in those people to dance either, just roll tape on prince and the girls. that would have made for a cool little film to own.
only slight criticism i have toward the actual song is that it's a shame we can only get the video and it doesn't come with an audio file of the song. that would have made it a lot better, to just have this live performance as an mp3 as well. but i guess we can remedy that by just converting.

I just saw it.
Holy shit.
The performance is alright, but even that isn't really enough for me to bother paying to download it and convert it to audio.
Everything else about it is straight up embarrassing. More than usual, for Prince videos even.
I see the age limit they put on the open call for dancers/extras really hindered them. The dancing scenes really ought to have more than 15 people on a big soundstage doing this dance. And I didn't really understand the point of the intro.

is this on youtube yet? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't get the age restriction, at all. I mean...it's not like you could actually see what the people looked like. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

If it was, nobody would link to it here.
What's the matter? Too expensive? You don't want to spend the $$ or the time to find it for free, you want someone to point you to a free copy?!? Wow! [Edited 2/11/13 10:39am] Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

it does seem like only a very small crowd showed up and i think at least 2 of them are professional dancers that were probably hired.
i didn't really understand why they put those shots in at all, because it just looked like what it looked like: only a few people, doing a silly dance on a huge sound stage.
would have been better even to have only the girl who dances in the screwdriver lyrics video dance in the middle of the stage in a spotlight.
now it looks like 'oh wow, 14 people showed up at paisley park for the videoshoot and at leat 4 of them look like they just came hoping for a free lunch and a packet of marlboro's'.

Okay, I just saw it, and I'm glad I didn't give up my personal information to buy it.
Buying a video isn't something I would do anyway. I would buy a DVD (or Blu-Ray) of a collection of videos or a live concert.
The only part I liked was Prince's hand gesture (where he beckoned the band to follow him to the soundstage).
What Prince should do is release the lyric video and promote it heavily, followed by a new album.
If Prince stays with all digital downloads from this point on, I'll be saving some money in the long run. "He's a musician's musician..."

yeah, I don't imagine I will be purchasing a video to watch on a computer.
I do purchase downloads, but whatever the format, I would much prefer an entire album. Hopefully the song is just a preview. Single songs just don't do much for me. My Legacy

As it's been said, I'd rather buy a live dvd instead of some weird little video. I'd like to see it first before I buy it
