With all the great songs Prince had from the Black Album, Camille and Crystal Ball, I think Lovesexy might have benefited from their darker edge and depth, and also better displayed his epiphany through Anna Stesia in the middle of the album. What do you reckon?

Lovesexy is/was fine as it is. I dont know aout that crazy assed tracklist you just made.

NOT missing the point. I just think having the transition from dark to positive in the album would have been a bit more interesting and less saccarine. He ditched alot of amazing songs for some very average ones on Loveesxy

No he did not ditch any amazing songs becasue he released them for specific projects and albums already.

I dont like your remixed tracklist..I like it as it is..ibut f anything, like most folks have already said, it could have bene a double album..one side The Black Album, the other side Lovesexy.

the idea is good, but the execution makes for a very weird listening experience.

the songs have no flow. almost every tune jars with the previous one.

there's also already a perfect way to transition lovesexy from dark to light with

the black album.

first listen to the black album, then listen to lovesexy. no changes.

the songs don't sound good side-by-side, since the stuff from the Black Album, for the most part, still employs that tense, terse economy of sound. everything sounds constricted and tight, even though there are a thousand things going on in a few of the tracks.

Lovesexy is the beginning of his "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink (and throw in the kitchen sink too, just for good measure)" approach to producing after he was sequestered away in Paisley Park with too much time and too many toys for his own good. it's got an airy feel to it, but it's dripping wet, whereas the Black Album is as dry as a bone.

LOVESEXY is a masterpiece. got that shit split up on my ipod. the title track might even come and i'll let that shit play, like i was forced to the first bunch of times i heard it and was ambivalent about the casual blasphemy (holy roller ). now i see his point cuz sex is a god-given gift (one that i've barely exercised without covering my tracks), etc. i'm not a jehovah's witness yet. (that that means anything) dude is righteous.

As a personal mix cd, I can see it quite enjoyable but I would only take it as far as that. I understand what your trying to do and I champion the creativity. It would be interesting to hear some of the songs in that order as a lark for a day. but I really dont think the "Black Album" is as strong cohersivly than "Lovesexy". The majority of the "Black album" is somewhat B material with the highlight bring "Superfunky", "Rock Hard in a Funky Place, and perhaps "2 nigs" followed by "Bob George" The beauty of "Lovesexy" is that with the exceotion of "The Ball" the majority of that album is fresh and new material. While the "Black album" songs come from different time periods and projects.

I can't say I'd like to see anything on Lovesexy changed, but to be quite honest I always thought Dance On had goofy/naive lyrics.

Dance On is as good as Sign Of The Times song lyrically. It's just not universal but emic rather than etic.
