I know some of you have questioned my sanity and musical sensibilities with the Newpower Soul appreciation thread, and suggesting Graffiti Bridge was Prince's most soulful album of the 90s, but that ain't nothing compared to this revelation...

I dig Jughead, I mean, I really dig it...I adore Rosie's soulful intro, I actually like the beat, I enjoy Tony M's rap, I especially love Rosie's section, and I think Prince's guest vocal is cool.

Yeah, I dug it and still do. The rapping part is what bothers me, Tony M., but when Prince comes in with a mean rap, that's kind of cool.

Not that I ever really though Prince rapping was great, I mean he can do it pretty good, but it never felt for me like it was a Prince thing.

Anyway, I also like that freaky sped up Prince voice that repeats in the background on the '1 and'.

It's a fun song, in my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. Why dos every Prince song need to be earth shattering with revelations and political/religious comments? It's no Housequake, for sure, but it's not any worse than most stuff on radio today.

I haven't heard it in years, but i remember liking it alright. I didn't know how horrible it was until the wonderful people on this site let me know.

I prefer the album version of Jughead to Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. In concert, it is most definitely the other way round.

If I hadn't heard this track yet and had only read what has been written about it on the Internet over the past decade I'd surely be expecting to hear some porno-quality track. While it's a million miles away from Prince's finest work, it's not the horrific track it’s made out to be.

To me it's nothing more than a fun track that sounded a lot like what was happening on the radio at the time; and to some extent, what’s still happening on the radio. Which means it’s one of Prince's weakest tracks and probably has little chance of being appreciated more as time goes on.

I applaud you for not only being able to think outside of this bully, geek-like group mentality, but that you are willing to share your opinion in a public forum.

Let's face it, Prince makes a lot of music. Therefore, he will make some howlers. If u look at someone like Marvin Gaye, we can see someone who was consistently of a very high level and rarely made a song worse than quite good, whereas Prince can be erratic.

Prince at his worst is absolutely terrible, but thankfully he is not at his worst very often. Most of the time he's amazing.


On Jughead he is at his worst. The song is very, very bad, and would in my book actually be ranked lower than nearly everything u will hear even on pop radio these days, with the exception of any Celine Dion tracks.

Oh, I'm not defending it really. After reading the posts in this thread I went back to listen to it for the first time in years. While it's not something I could refrain from hitting the skip button on, I can't say it's the most annoying Prince song to me. It just mainly doesn't hold my attention, and it feels forced. But I can see how some would like it. I like some silly Prince songs, this just doesn't happen to be one of them.
