I heard it loud and clear. First thoughts were, damn now I got to watch that boring ass ceremony so I get a 2 minute glimpse of Prince. Oh well, guess I'll be tuning in. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Presenting or not; it's going to be cool to see him there.
If he's just presenting, I doubt he'll wear those shades. He might wear a Black/White Suit..You know the often mix he wears:
LIKE THAT...
From what eye see, Prince doesn't wear his most 'Flamboyant' clothing, unless he's on stage performing. He'll just be cool with a suit...OR..He might wear the Billboard cover outfit, knowing Prince!
He might wear a variation of that, as now Prince seems to have no problem 'repeating his outfits. I JUST HOPE..THE YELLOW PANTS..CEASE! LOL It's Button Therapy, Baby! |

Now we(orgers) are the "masses"? Since he's rocking the shades on the cover of Billboard I haven't heard a media outlet mention them just blurbs about what he said that might be incendiary or provoking. I still can't forgive the fact that Prince lost to U2, back w. Sign O The Times...

I agree, that year was very disappointing for the Grammies. The Joshua Tree is great but it doesn't compare with other great albums that year like Bad, Introducing The Hardline, Faith (I know it won the next year), let alone Sign o' the Times easily the greatest album of that year and probably that whole decade.
Prince has been extremely underrated in the Grammies just like they did with Purple Rain, I mean why did they pick Lionel Richie's album? Again, it's a great album but IMO all of the other nominees were better especially Purple Rain. 1999 wasn't even nominated, and it totally deserved the nomination. I can see why his other great albums such as Dirty Mind and I guess everything else from the 80's didn't get nominated because they weren't such "big" albums like that, but at least his three big albums should have all been nominated and won. |

Beyonce has sixteen grammy's and Prince has seven.
That doesn't seem right, but then awards are given out like peanuts these days. In my head I know they're meaningless and devalued, just an excuse for artists to indulge in mutual masturbation.
Still, I'd like Princey to win a few more awards! "I'm much too hot to be cool" |

exactly, lots of great artists don't win many Grammies. And what's worse is that a lot of them don't get what they deserve in their prime and then they try to make up for it by giving them Grammies on inferior later work. |

I'm already wondering if he's going to perform (and if he is, what song and with who?)or just present an award?
And......who's he going with ?
It would be awesome if he brought the three new girls from his new band as his dates. LOL |

Kate Bush, Queen and David Bowie have NEVER received ANY Grammies, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
Only Bowie received the lifetime achievement award in 2006, but anyway, no awards for their work on the annual awards. -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

Kate I can understand as she's been pretty niche in America - she almost broke through in '85 but the charts largely ignored her.
However..Queen and Bowie? That's pretty shocking. "I'm much too hot to be cool" |

Oh, did not know that! That`s a shame! But it says a lot about awards and progressive artists versus commercial ones....
There was even a discussion about Justin Bieber not nominated, that says even more about it... |

Totally remember... What I do not remember is why Prince didn't tour the U.S. for the Sign O' The Times tour.
U2's massive success (and current high regard) has been a mystery to me. Back when they came out, I actually liked them, but there were many bands in the eighties that sounded like U2... all were better. Simple Minds, etc.
It is my belief that the promotion behind (and award for) 'Joshua Tree' is what launched them into some sort of undeserved icon status.
On another U2 note, I remember assisting in recovering a tracked-out (all channels/tracks are separate) live concert of theirs back in early 2000s, and there were like 60 plus channels/tracks... We were able to recover the concert, but it was a nightmare. "He's a musician's musician..." |

I don't know. I was not a U2 fan, but the Joshua Tree got constant play from me during that year or two it was hot. I think every song on it is good, and some are great.
And like the formula of many of my favorite albums, the first side is full of hits, and the second side is somehow even better. I have never really loved U2 before or since. Somehow I think they did that one right, even more than Achting Baby or Unforgettable Fire. So maybe promotion helped, but a great album also helped make them icons.
Sign might be better or more impressive, but Joshua Tree had 3 massive hits. And let's not pretend that doesn't matter when it comes to Grammys! Sign only really had one hit, though other songs became well known. [Edited 2/6/13 11:21am] |
