Toure's book on Prince
Hi,
I've just seen that there'll be a new Prince book soon, Toure's I Would Die For You: Why Prince Became An Icon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/W...amp;sr=1-1
Not living in the US, I haven't heard of Touré. I've seen he has several books on racial issues. Can some orger tell me something about him? I don't know if we can expect something from his book on Prince.
Thanks! [Edited 2/5/13 5:50am]

He visited Prince/ in Paisley Park in 1998 for an interview in Icon magazine. It was a well written piece, he has a sense of humour, even joined the man for a game of baseball. Just one of the many interviews P did back then, but it was worth the read, so I'm guessing the book will be good. Haven't seen you in a while, Javi, welcome back!

OK, thanks, I wasn't aware of this thread, maybe I lost it because it was short.
I think we can appreciate new efforts with different perspectives. It's difficult to write a better book than The Vault when it comes to info about songs, albums and tours; but there are other approaches, like McInnis's on The Lyrics Of Prince or that book Prince: The Making Of A Pop Icon, that can throw light upon our kid. Maybe Toure's can be interesting if he tries to make something different.

I've read two books on the man, "Pop Life" which as I seem to recall as being fairly excellent, particularly the analysis of his albums up through lovesexy, and "Possessed" which aside from the occasional nods to Prince's musical genius, was a fairly negative portrait.
Still, I didn't hold that against the writer, if indeed the stories within were accurate and true.
I will be interested in checking out the book, it's been a long time since I've read a longform analysis of his work.

^This. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
