Prince and non-christian religions?

Hi y'all smile

So u probably ain't familiar with it but a friend of mine is baha'i (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bah%C3%A1%27%C3%AD_Faith) and he was very surprised to learn that Prince mostly preached religious notions all his life.

So I wondered, what would a baha'i think of prince's philosophy (thru his lyrics)? What do muslim or hindu or sikh or buddhist or jews or other -non christian- religions' fans (there must be some) think of Prince's philosophy (beyond the JW dogma, which is quite recent in his works, and didn't modify his philosophy as deeply as some claim)?

I'm asking cuz here it's alwats atheists vs. christians, but hell, there's more to life than these 2 philosophies biggrin

Good question.

As a spiritually-inclined Otter myself, I can relate to his journey of becoming, ever closer to the highest Otter-consciousness.

love,

Spirit

I don't: it's just that after 12 years on this forum, I hardly recall anything but christians and atheists being vocal about Prince's spirituality.

Oh sorry i misunderstood ur comment. I assume so just cuz every bloody time i ever mentioned baha'is to people they told me they'd never heard of them, and my baha'i friend says the same about people not knowing bout 'em.

I don't know why but I Like your user name :B

Good question, Because I Used to be kind of an atheist when I discovered Prince. It's Ironic that just when I was about to say "Fuck It, there is no God, I don't believe in anything" Prince's music got in my way. I can't say that after listening to Prince's music I'm a little piece of heaven who walks around carrying a bible... But I'm now in a whole new different level of understanding. I learnt how to be more tolerant and respectful to other people's beliefs (This one is important, because when I was "Atheist" I used to be like "Oh, don't be stupid, there is no god. All the other religions are a waste of time. JW Are all hypocrites. Church is nothing but a business") And I was offending a lot of people, So I'm glad I've changed. I also learnt that, Just as Prince says "Being inside of a church don't make a righteous man" I don't need to belong to any religion, and I don't need to wear a turtleneck and go to church every sunday to be with God. I find Denise's testimony really inspiring too. I can say that I'm in touch with my spiritual side more often now.

I'm just a teenager so Maybe when I was in my "Atheist days" I was just going through a phase and Prince helped me get out of it, but I'm sure that I would still be that stupid disrespectful girl If it wasn't for his music. Now, for the ones that are Real Atheists, I could say they respect Prince's philosophy -Even tho they don't agree with it, I guess- Or at least they find it interesting/Inspiring, Otherwise they wouldn't enjoy his music biggrin

Being a proud atheist, I have to say I think Prince's beliefs in JW bs is a bunch of bullshit. To me there is a higher being, but it is not some judgemental fire and brimstone god like all these Christians and hardcore JW's worship.

JW to me is a cult and its a sign Prince is not that bright if he falls for their cultic beliefs. I don't believe a true and legitimate religion can openly preach hatred against LGBT people, and anyone of a different faith or religion.

I know I will piss a lot of folks off here, but I am against dogma from any church or religion. I believe that science and rationality will triumph over any form of superstitious claptrap.

"Being a proud atheist" and "there is a higher being" is a bit of an oxymoron.

Sounds like you're actually agnostic.

And I agree with you, the church with fire and brimstone has created more atheists than not!

Anyway P isn't 100% JW, he's said in interviews that they are closest to the truth not that they are the truth.

And he sure doesn't believe in the no sex before marriage rule which is bollox.

Actually, if you believe there is a higher power, then you're more of a deist.

Before evolutionary theory, it was the most the most rational position for a non-religious person to take.
