The Musical Portrait - did U notice the London rehearsal -- THIS shows why Prince is such a genius in a studio.. This is why Prince is a musical genius... he is able to play all kind of instruments (almost) and with both hands:
did you notice in the "Musical Portrait" tv special, there's a scene - a rehearsal from London, with the old NPG (IIRC)...
and Prince is playing guitar and synths -both hands- at the same time..

He actually was playing three instruments at the same time...you just can't see the Harmonica which is between the cheeks of his arse!!

he does it again in the RNR video. It is not that hard. He has 2 hands. What is hard it playing 4 different drum beats at the same time (four sticks) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |

Great stills, I remember seeing this when first broadcast and was blown away!
It wasn't the NPG though, it was during Lovesexy period - he has a mirrored heart strapped to his wrist for confirmation.

Go to the Org Artist Community forum and click on Toejam's thread, "Toejam plays 8 instruments at once!"
Toejam doesn't really play 8 at the same time, but there's one portion where he plays a keyboard line while also playing the trumpet.

Go to church and look what good organists are doing all day! They play two organs at the same time? At the sessions for Bob Dylan's famous Blone on Blonde album, bassist Charley McCoy announced that he'd like to play some trumpet. Bob said no, because he didn't want any overdubs. And then watched in amazement as Charley played both instruments at the same time. Now you can say whatever you want about Dylan, but he plays piano, guitar and harmonica (and you can play those last two at the same time too.) So yes, I know Prince is not the only one who can do that! I know if you play a bass with one hand you can only go bump-bump-bump... But still, it's an impressive sight even if they're showing off. | |
