Howard Stern plays "screwdriver" He more or less started the show today ... and said he heard a new Prince song and liked it ... called it "retro" and ... played it .
He then went on about Prince's crazy ways ... how silly it is to do an interview and make the person doing the interview just "remember" everything they talk about ... etc ...
He said Prince reminds him of the taliban ... next he is just gonna hijake the interviewer and put a blindfold over his head .... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Howard Stern didn't he play "Best Of U" long time ago?
- Prince's studio version, the Foo Fighters cover -- back in 2007?
A truly great song, a pitty H. Stern was talking in over it.. "voice over" whatever it is called. Prince 4Ever.

Perez Hilton has also said he loves it. ..Or scribbled cum over a photograph of someone's face indicating he liked it. Let's not forget Dr. Funkenberry.
So the "big" guns are out, The publicity machine is in full force.

Yes he's getting the publicity but the bigger question is what is he going to do with it? He needs to do something via the website like put something to sell on it. Don't kill the momentum by going into hiding Purple Yoda.

the original thread could'a used these comments . i certainly care about howard and them's opinion. For all time I am with you, you are with me.

That's what I'm concerned about. This wave of publicity is more than "Rock N Roll Love Affair" generated. I don't want Prince to wait 2 months to put this on iTunes, when people have moved on to other songs by other artists. Prince hasn't gotten this much POSITIVE press for a song in a long time. For what it's worth, Howard Stern, Perez Hilton, Nas have retweeted the link to the song.
If Prince does find a U.S. distributor they will have an upward climb promoting this song to rock radio, because they rarely play rock songs by Black musicians. The website has been up for week and it would perfect timing to update it. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

This is a pop song through and through. They would be crazy to attempt to take it to rock radio.
After much thought as to who this track was aimed at, i have come to the conclusion that this song is meant for kids under 14. My guess it is meant for girls under 14 specifically. I just cringe at the thought of kids repeating the line "I'm your driver you're my scewy-oohy-oohy-oooo"

(Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan) / Foo Fighters) WHAT? Really, this exists? Circulating? If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

He recorded it but the only version I know of circulating was Howards broadcast where he's talking while its on in the background. Not worth looking for.

P should start putting these songs on soundtracks

at the time back then - I believe Prince was thinking of doing Howards show - before the Superbowl show ... they were supposedly in "discussion" ... so Prince did send HOward the tape for that .. . I think HOward made comments to the effect that "he wants total descretion as far as what to say ... what to ask ... etc .... and Prince wanted some "topics" off the table so to speak ....
so it never happened ...
I think it would have been great for Prince's career ... just my opinion .... Prince just needs to lighten up ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

If Prince wants world domination again he has to play the game pure & simple.

I actually think it's worth a listen! Howard (and Gang) only talk over the start and ending - it's basically almost exactly the same as the Superbowl version except it's in the studio so it's a little more in tune and clearer.

Releasing better music is more like it.

While that would help it's media over saturation that matters now. There's plenty of good music out there that doesn't have the multi-platform support needed to succeed $$ wise.

IIRC, there was no talk of an appearance. Howard said that Prince's people had sent the recording along and that, apparently, Prince thought that Howard and the crew might like to speculate on-air about what he might play at the Super Bowl. Howard, of course, thought this was one of the most ridiculous ideas he'd ever heard.
P.S. Howdy, ColAngus! | |

I really wish Prince would release the live version of this song.....even though I only saw that one little clip of it...it was so so so much better than the studio version. I was actually surprised Howard liked it. pleasantly surprised but suprised none the less. and to what his face who said howard a kiss ass...pfft! please! he said he liked the song and then proceeded to bash him for the next few minutes. "not a fan" yeah...ok
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was sarcasm. VB just doesn't like the song.

Howard Stern and Perez Hilton chiming in on a track that has yet to be released to radio and known only to diehards who still visit a Prince fan site. It's not about Howard or Perez being ass-kissers, it's about them being greased to say something nice.

I heard his reaction, and he seems quite positive about it.
Screw Driver is a good song!
My nephew, who's 5 who LOVESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Michael Jackson, btw. LOL
When I usually play Prince, it's like he gets sad and always tells me how he does not like Prince (Unless I air guitar to him..lol)...Than he wants to listen to 'Nagoya'
He loves Screw Driver though, he keeps saying "I'm the driver and you're my screw'. Haha. He really loves the song, and keeps asking me to play it. It's obviously a song even kids can dig, Prince sings it very animated. It's a step in the right direction cause it gives him airplay on radio...
Now you see, when he brings it LIVE, he's going to turn all heads to it! That's when he brings it! It's Button Therapy, Baby!
