to anyone who says prince music ended at the end of the 80s...i point them in the direction of the fan made compilation from the 90s "the dawn"...as good as if not better than his 80s output imo...prince has continued to make good music throughout his career...just not as regular...the new song "screwdriver" is growing on me...give it a few listens and you might surprise yourself....its simple and catchy...yes its not a "when doves cry" but fans have been saying for years that prince dosen't get the same "live" sound when he records.. i think he gets close to it on the new song which i love..

I agree... The one thing about Prince music is sit a bunch of people down in the same room and in minutes they'll be disagreeing about what his best songs are.

I remember when "Emancipation" came out, everyone seemed to agree that he needed to edit it down to 2 CDs... and that's where the agreement ended because NO ONE could agree on what songs to include.

I think Screw Driver is MILES ahead of Rock N Roll Love Affair--which with its hooklessness has nothing to sing along to and is melodically boring not straying 1 or 2 notes away. But some people on here LOVE IT. Go figure.

"That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Prince is just burnt out. It happens to all artists even the most prolific ones. It was a helluva run though

Screwdriver is a perfect example of prince being un-inspirational in the studio. His live performances prove that he is untouchable, this is true. Playing along side accomplished musicians, with a sound incredible. However, when I listen to SD I find it hard to believe the wastefulness of it all. It's obviously a C&D track, or simply prince can't do rock. A basement band sound....where is the talented Musician? This is after all a guy who created some of the most imaginable music of the 80s. Man, the 90s fucked things up.

Agree.

The live version was wild and rocking, really amazing.

Studio verson is just ok.

But somehow, I really liked the version that Pererz Hilton presented on his site.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.
