The Corrections Dear .Org,
Are there any typical comments/themes/critiques that you routinely see here at the .Org that you feel a slight or serious urge to "correct" whenever you see them.
It could be to do with Prince's music or personality, or it could relate to how fellow Orgers reflect on such matters e.g. whenever KCool says "masterpiece" after almost EVERYTHING or how Bart seemingly critiques everything to do with Prince past 1995 from a negative viewpoint.

The idea that people still buy CDs, or that people buy CDs in sufficient quantities to make them a lucrative distribution platform.

I really want to grab my paddle each time when people go into the tailspin "Prince can't do anything good/right since year _____." This is especially true whenever we get a new song/outtake/rehearsal or whatever. That annoys me to no end. He's made alot of music since year ______, some which I liked and some which I don't. I didn't care for RAINBOW CHILDREN for example, musically and especially not the religious/political angle which was too esoteric for me. Yet "Act of God" from 20TEN (which has a stinky reputation) is one of my personal favorites of his.
I'm also surprised with the negative vibes many people have about his post-1980s work, including Haley and Draper's books, which give the impression that the 1990s especially were a decade of futility and stupidity and blah blah.
Sure P handled the WB divorce PR-wise very poorly, and screwed himself (perhaps) in that divorce regarding the masters. Sure GRAFFITI BRIDGE the movie was bad, sure Carmen Electra the rap artist was a WTF project, sure NEWPOWER SOUL was pretty dull....But last I checked, he still cranked out hit songs. He still sold alot of records....sometimes. Maybe not as much as the 80s obviously, but it's incredible staying power for any pop act when you're dealing with fickle audiences and tastes as time marches onward.
I'm reminded especially of DIAMONDS & PEARLS which, lets admit it, is open for criticism sonically. But it was also one of his best selling albums, and the source for many hit tracks. All in spite of Tony M. All very impressive indeed.

LOL@Nouveau. I was thinking the same thing. Monty Python moment aside, I do concur with the general point made by RRA (although he could have also included the initial disappointments that greeted both the Emancipation and Rave releases to drive his point home even further; then again, he didn't even touch upon the Crystal Ball fiasco or 1999 The New Master masterpiece). Still, the 90s era had much to enjoy e.g. Kamasutra. love, Spirit

Well, ok then.
I don't understand the premise of critiquing or "correcting" KCOOL for his "masterpiece" comments nor Bart for his less-than-praising comments. BECAUSE THEY ARE OPINIONS.
That's one of my biggest annoyances here---when self-riteous orgers get all up in arms because of your opinion of Prince's musc doesn't match theres. Big fucking deal. We have stuff we like or dislike. When it's as subjective as an opinion. what exactly is there to correct?
So there. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Their opinions are never changing therefore they are moot(sp?) and just trolling..its obvious if they felt differently about things they wouldn let that be known but will continue their shctick which makes their faux opinions not genuine and continued troll behavior.
The end. "Climb in my fur."

No, I'm serious here. Why should either bart's opinions or kcool's opinions need to waver or change?
I've never found any posts by bart's to be trolling. Has anyone noticed the guy doesn't ever get banned? I just don't see why a person's opinion is in need of any kind of 'correcting'.
I don't know this kcool guy all that well, and don't follow his posts, but if he's stating an opinion, I don't see why people chould get their pannies in a wad over it.
I think there's a bif difference between provocative and highly unpopular views being expressed and actual trolling.
Again, I'm not hugely familiar with both of them, less so with kcool--but when a person poses a thread that is open to opinion in a public forum, it baffles me people get upset over opinions expressed. And, this is not me playing dumb--I really find it odd.

And Im trying to tell you that what they do is nothing to do with expression of 'opinions'...it something different than that. Geezus. You cant see that? "Climb in my fur."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes their unwavering "opinions" come across like self-parody now or purely to get a reaction (trolling).
While it's possible that someone likes/hates everything Prince has done, Kcool proclaiming everything a masterpiece, or Bart sneeringly critiquing every move Prince makes does not now allow them to actually state anything even 1 or 2 notches up/down from that. Which, I suspect, is the reality behind the scenes.

OK, I don't follow either enough to see if it's an act or not.
My point should probably be expressed without using them as examples then. In general, I don't think the concept of 'correcting' an opinion makes sense.
I mean, it's not like these people are the President chewing gum at their innauguration or anything like that.

1. stop lying...nobody is 'follwoing ' them but dont act like you dont see their posts everywhere as we all do
2. See, you used them as examples..you do notice their schtick
3. Again what they do doesnt constitute as being opinions..you keep saying that but " you need more people..we dont believe you" lol
3. They are not worthy as Obama is to chew gum like he runnin this shit the way he wants to do..get used to it "Climb in my fur."

1. I don't see their posts everywhere. I think you are overestimating my posting style here on org. My posts are generaily like hit-and-runs. Except for a few threads like this one. So no...I'm largely unfamiliar with their posts other than Bart seems to disdain Prince's current output and delivery methods.
2. I notice their posts, but not more so than I would iaminparties or DarlingDiana, etc. I know just enough to get a feel for their stuff. Not to guess their motivations or 'stchitck". You underestimate how cliquish I am.
3. I didn't understand your #3 post, but I think you're telling me I'm correct.
3.2 History books will be discussing how the gum cheweing event was the apex of the fall of the American experiment.
