Lady Cab Driver live Detroit '82 What do you think about this version of the song? It's different then all the versions Prince did on the tour ,it's the longest version of all he did and the only live version where Prince plays one of the guitar solos.

Shame he only did it for the early stages of the tour and that this is the only recorded version of it, but that just makes it all the more special...gets a lot of play on my iPod

I love that version of the song. When I first got hold of it on the City Lights CD in 95 I listened to it constantly. I love the added lyrics and the extended music. This is one of my favorite Prince songs and I wish he´d revisit this one.
I once had an interesting conversation with a cab driver where I told him about the recurring theme of cabs and cab drivers in Prince´s lyrics, like Annie Christian, Joint 2 Joint, and Lady Cab Driver. I think there are some more. I absolutely love this song. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

thank you,btw he does the extended version on triple treat tour rehearsal also, and he also incorporates the lyrics you wrote above with additional line:Hey Sexy Mamma i'm gonna make you scream and shout 'cu thats what making love with Prince is all about. I also think Prince does the guitar solo on the rehearsal also.btw Prince's guitar solo on Detroit version is very nice and unusual

It's a shame for such a great tour that his set lists were so short to make room for the other two acts... It'd be cool if a couple shows could be edited together to make a compilation of the tour with songs like Automatic/Lady cab Driver (full)/DMSR (full)/Uptown/Let's pretend we're married/ SExuality all on one set
only problem is, the sound would fluctuate constantly

only problem is, the sound would fluctuate constantly lland it depends, there is quite a few soundboards of the 1999 so you can choose from it

I think it is by FAR the best (live) version of this song. It's long, the sound is perfect and the band is absolutely 5 star
