Sounds like it's the audio from the rehearsal clip posted a lil while back. It sounds great, but I don't think it's the studio version. Great guitar.

I still like it.

Prince - Your rock songs these days, they work better live than in studio. Whatever it is you're doing in the studio strangles the life of them. Dude, just put out some off the cuff rehearsal version that you dug, that would do us. See also: Fury, Peach, Days Of Wild, I Like It There etc, etc.

The raw intensity of this live version of Screwdriver reminds me of live Fury!!

Dont mess this up P with a crap studio version! Dakota's is gonna be rockin'!

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I do too, I'm just not the biggest fan of princes distorted guitar tone, so the new one is more than I want to hear

If there has to be a studio version, so be it , though the live version is just too good not to be released.

How about a maxi single with both pray ...... + Jamie Lewis remixes evillol

It would cover the radio spectrum nicely.

For those at the Dakota enjoy the rest of Donna's audition, Holla at ya Girl! guitar

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

Well yes, his distorted guitar tone tends to be very "hard" and blurry (see The Undertaker especially...), but I think it conveys more of the cocky hard-rock attitude than the semi-distorted almost country-like guitar tone from the Hohner he often uses in the studio (don't get me wrong - I love the sound of the undistorted Hohner, but it just doesn't fit heavy rock songs, in my opinion).

I don´t like the Screwdriver sound at all, it just sounds loud, raw and unfinished.

I´m more into the sound of the Gold era and the ONA era.

If that´s the new sound from Prince and his girl group then i might be out for a while i guess.

At least he is doing something different after all the hits tours he did recently.

^I'm with U! I can't understand why everybody is raving about this. Like you've never heared guitar rock before. He's starting to sound like Lenny Kravitz trying to sound like Led Zep. C'mon ev'rybody, this kinda stuff has been done 100,000 times be4. guitar grandpa bored2

It reminds me of "Brand New Boy". No one likes the rock and roll more than me, but this one is going to have to grow on me, or have some good lines that haven't been heard yet. Right now, I'm thinking it's kind of generic.

Awesome! I also hope this tune doesn't get the studio Endorphin Machine-Fury treatment. I'm sooo envious of those who get to attend the shows at the Dakota!

Side note: I understand these are just clips and not official releases but why do they have to have such awful sound quality? All of the 3rdEyegirl stuff sounds pretty bad to me but this latest clip of Screwdriver is really bad imo. Oh well, beggars can't be choosey. I'm sure the quality sucks for a reason other than the fact they are from u-tube vids.

The attitude is fine, but I much prefer a cranked amp sound to a fizzy distortion pedal sound (certain fuzz pedals excepted).

Prince and his Boss pedals are inseperable, you know that.

eye would like to hear prince give MARSHALL amp distortion a try .. especially with a les paul gibson .. then he would hear some real grit in his tone
