One Song and Cause and Effect I was listening to "Cause and Effect" awhile ago and it made me think of another song in which Prince mentioned "Cause and Effect" - the intro to One Song (which caused me to have to pull up the video and watch it, as well). Has anyone ever noticed how Prince's music seems to tie together? Sometimes I feel as though his music is a huge puzzle, in which all of the pieces fit together perfectly, but one must discover where each puzzle piece fits. Once one does, the greatest art piece ever created will appear. Strange, I know, but ...
In One Song, Prince states:
In Cause and Effect, Prince sings:
It also indicates to me there is a strong central core in Prince, that, contrary to popular opinion, remains constant. Unchanging.

Nice topic; that strong central core is again echoed in Same Page, Different Book. He certainly appears to have yet again moved towards the universal. love, Spirit

It's almost like ...the same person is writing all this stuff. I jest. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

No he doesn't!
Made in the image of god's intellect. RIP

That was the point I was trying to make. I don't think he ever moved away from the universal. Regardless of what religious path he follows or followed, there is that central core of him that is very universal and always has been. You see it woven throughout all of his music. And Same Page Different Book is what caused me to pull up Cause and Effect, and then One Song. I don't know why it made me think of C&E, but I just knew I needed to revisit that song after hearing Same Page...

LOL - no you don't (jest that is)! :p
I was just meaning that regardless of where Prince is in his life, in his musical journey, there is a belief (if you will) that he holds that seems to be unchanging, constant.

LOL - listen again! (Though I will admit the first time I heard it without headphones, that is what I thought he was singing. When I put on the headphones and really listened, it is "cause and effect".)

Don't know if winding me up or slightly deaf!
Maybe it's me but I've listened a few times now and it's definitely god's something. Sounds like intellect but it it could be the 'image of gods xxx'.
Also, sounds like he says If first, so 'If made in the image...'.
The first two times it's sung are clearly this to me, the third time is less decipherable because there's a lot more background vocals. RIP

That's what I tought when I very first heard it but not so sure now. It's definitely not the image of cause & effect though . RIP

yea, it's "God's intellect." Prince is interested in and has mentioned before the idea of "Intelligent Design."
