Without a title (or booklet, whatever) what's the point of releasing CD's at all?

I guess that's okay but I like having a real album that was intended for release. A lot of my favorite albums connect really well including Prince's albums like Dirty Mind or 1999 even Sign o' the Times which I know was cut from the longer Crystal Ball set. These albums are focused and Prince worked hard on delivering a product which included the album, the image he was selling, and the B-sides which all somehow connected.

If he were to release random songs as he is now and sell them as a collection I wouldn't really see it as an original album but as a compilation album. Although I do think this would be a neat idea if he would plan a lot of things ahead, giving us music gradually and eventually compiling them into one coherent album.

How about the yearly cd's at the end of a yearly subscription, where you download during the year and get a limited edition cd collection of the stuff, with fancy packaging, nice fine printed booklet, etc...

All that bathing in purple rain just can't be good for your health...

The way he changes his mind every ten minutes, forget it. It won't happen.

Only if he offers an alternative to a subscription: buy each track as it's released and still be eligible to buy the CD at the end of the year (without pre-paying a subscription fee) and I'm in.

Maybe he thinks that if he releases one song at a time, each song will be more appreciated than releasing a CD as a whole where it usually got bad reviews for the last few years among the fans. I think I'm with you though, I love the idea of an real album. A real album with a title, an artwork, a theme, flow, unique sequencing...these are all the details of an album that are just important as the quality of songs imo. Prince's albums tell me what Prince was experimenting artistically & going through personally that year, and I really enjoy listening to a lot of them from start to finish thinking that it's really one 45 minute long song. =( But oh well, as long as we get new materials...

I think Prince is at a stage in his life/career where he has done everything possible and he doesn't want the extreme hassle that must come from releasing an album. Why shoud he go thru that when he can just release stuff off the cuff (remember his live shows make him the cash).

I agree, I think that especially in this generation listeners don't listen to whole albums so they probably wouldn't even listen to a song that isn't a single. I've always been an album guy, I think Prince has said that listening to one song is like watching one scene of a film or reading one chapter of a book and I agree with him. Listening to a Prince album or any good album is like experiencing the music, much more so than playing some playlist you made up or just listening to one song.

But the industry is changing and I don't know anyone personally who listens to full albums like I do, so it may be wiser for Prince to go with the singles then compile them route. But I miss the times when I could get an album like Lovesexy and be surprised at how much more to Pop music there is than just catchy singles, with that album Prince had a statement and he was saying it loud and clear in a whole cohesive piece. Most of his albums are like that to me but some are stronger than others. However, this seems to be the industry as going and I am not a fan of it at all. sad I do look forward to what Prince has to offer in 2013 though!

Totally agree, he is drowning in his own ego here. If I hear "Real music by real Musicians" again I will scream!!!!! and then he puts out autotune rubbish like Rock and Roll Love affair and chapter and verse (Yuck!!!!)

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

There's no autotune on either of those tracks.

Also: I continue to be mystified by the hate for Rock & Roll Love Affair around here. I think it's his best single in a very long time.

I want the album to seduce me.

Flirt - building up tension - seducing and playing - long foreplay - tender and loving sex - passionate love making.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

He already does that on a semi-weekly basis.
