Can't believe people like this. The "melody" in the first verse is absolutely horrible. Vocals are grating, there is no discernable hook... I get that Prince at least has a nice message in this song... great. Nothing in here is worth listening to more than once, though.

I like it, a good addition to his oeuvre. I don't see it as some kind of earth shattering track, but a groovy contribution to his overall body of work. I would have liked the Camille treatment on this one, might have elevated it to Pfunk status, but I like it anyway. Thank you 3rd Eye Girl whoever you are.

I agree with your displeasure for the poor lyrics. A musical genius should be AT LEAST a reasonable writer. There's no excuse for being naive and/or stupid.

Ironically, his songs are so musically bright that 98% of his die-hard fans are atheist or non-fanatical religious, although he keeps coming up with fanatical religious lyrics, which is always a stupid view of the world, whatever the religion is. That's a Prince paradox.

Not that he always been a bad writer, Raspberry Beret, If I Was Your Girlfriend and even the religious I Would Die 4 U come to mind as great lyrics (the thing is IWD4U, although religious, is not fanatical or doctrinaire, not a preach).

Now musically, you seem to dislike virtually everything he did after what, Lovesexy maybe? Now I'm not with you anymore. I think this song actually is groovy n funky, I like the instrumentation, and the bassline is great. Would make a good album track.

And I'm SO GLAD Prince can still be really funky, as has also been proved by the excellent Sticky Like Glue from 20Ten.
