this was the best post to use for a sticky about this song? really?
seriously tho, i love the tune. it sounds good. stripped down, minimalist, yet still interesting all the way through. it's already stuck in my head for the best part of the day.
here's to hoping he'll release more of these outtakes or whatever it is, in the near future.

Good track, really enjoyed the synth line. Like "Act of God," he sounds upset or angry about something. Its not simply him going by the motions and talking about partying or make whopee or God or whatever. When he's emotionally engaged like this, I think like any other artist it brings something out and sometimes for the better.
If he actually still did singles with flip sides (or now just two tracks or more), this would be a good "B" track. Not an insult, its a good B track.

Another sign of the times song but different meaning behind it

It's a solid, fresh and funky track. However, I find Shelby J's rap unnecessary and instrusive. Then again, I find Shelby unnecessary and instrusive overall.

Yes I agree with it being a good B track, Same page different book wouldn't do good on an album cuz the song is a bit weak but not that bad. I actually think the rap is the best part of this song [Edited 1/8/13 5:00am] Welcome 2 The Dawn

I've noticed that a part of this song sounds VERY like the tune of '100MPH' by Mazarati. The bit at 2:39 that starts "Relations Chapter 3 says..." Is very like the chorus for '100MPH' (also written by Prince) that goes "100 Miles Per hour baby, that's what it's all about. You need a lover that will slow you down, somebody that will make you shout" Ya dig? “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

Good one, KeithyT.
I must say, this new song is giving me an entirely enhanced and more enjoyable appreciation of the Slaughterhouse album. I am actually beginning to get inside all those grooves on the album in a way that wasn't possible before.

Same page Different Book" is a teacher/student lesson learned in a funked out lyrically metaphoric "MasterPiece"....Plus Shelby's funky rap adds spice & brings it up ten notches.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Cool track, nothing earthshaking imo.
Part of the groove and the horn bursts remind me of Mad Sex from New Power Soul - which I liked.
Would sound ok as an album track

the rap on it is terrible lame, I'd probably do a better job myself

It was just played on national Swedish radio channel P3! My jaw dropped... The host presented it to her co-hosts like a song surfaced on the net "supposedly from a legend". Afterwards the co-hosts rightly guessed it was Prince and was quite unimpressed - "disappointed that the founder of modern funk releases this type of formula A funk".
Now a listener guessed it is Terence Trent D'Arby

I am loving this song..."Same Page Different Book".
It's a funky little jam and although possibly simplistic in sound it glows in it's arrangement with a good amount of interesting sounds, guitar, bass/drums and vocals dancing around supporting the lead vocals and lyrics. For me it has the flavors, not exact copy, but flavors in tone and lyrics with great songs like "The Word", "Walk Don't Walk" and "Props 'N Pounds".
I am super excited for new PRINCE music this year! 2013 = PRINCE!

I love this song.
Takes guts to sing about Palestina and Israel.
First couplet seems to be about the interview for both French & English newspaper, and the upheaval that caused. My guess this song is his response and explanation.

I tried. I really, really did. I've been told I'm too negative of Prince's new material but no, I can't dig it. Maybe I'm just a simple man but I can't get past the convoluted preachy lyrics. I really can't. I don't understand him anymore. Maybe some of y'all do or act like you do but is this really what you want to hear Prince sing about? The Book of Galations? He might was well become a Christian singer as Brother Prince. What happened to songs about love, hope, devotion, sex, etc.? The only think I found slightly interesting was his little throwback to "100 MPH". Other than that: FAIL. Sorry, Prince. I still love ya man.
