Emancipation new appreciation

Ive been listening to this album for the last week and in light of what has been released by p since then.. i have a greater appreciation of the quality of this album..if he where to release something as musically sound as this now i think we would all be ecstatic.. when it first came out i wasnt a huge fan of it and still nothing on it really would play good live maybe with a few exceptions but i am enjoying this album and i think it reflects the contentment in ps life at the time.. it really comes through with each listening

I'm not overly fond to be honest. These are the only songs I like off each disk, and it isn't a lot I'm afraid.

Disk One:

Jam Of The Year

Right Back Here In My Arms

Somebody's Somebody

White Mansion

Damned If I do

I Can't Make You Love Me

Disk Two:

I don't like ANY song off this disk eek

Disk Three:

Face Down

Style

Sleep Around

My Computer

One Of Us

That's about it hah. I do agree though that it sums up his life at that time.

I enjoy it each time I put it on. I seldom listen to it without putting some other record on between disc 2 & 3 though. It's just too much "90s Prince" to listen to on one sitting.

It's kind of a strange record, because on one hand there's the really kitschy, ballad stuff on it ("Betcha By Golly Wow!", "Let's Have A Baby"), but then there are the rawer, more experimental electronic cuts on it too ("In This Bed I Scream", "Joint 2 Joint").

It's like a time capsule of Prince's life at the time and the joy of being married and having a baby....it is quite haunting when listening to it now.....but I think it's a great, positive, uplifting, spiritual work.

Disc 1 is cool but love the spirituality of Disc 2....it is Prince's favourite disc too according to an interview he gave.....

Emancipation is a great album/cd that has never really gotten the props it deserves. The title track is also funky as hell!

Emancipation, along with Chaos and Disorder, is probably the Prince album that I have listened to the most.

Have u heard the unreleased version? It's great too, has a stronger melody, in fact I think I prefer it.

I totally agree!

Disc two is my favorite, and listening to it all..Gives me a time of reflection. It's not bad...If he arranged the songs differently and added what we got later, it would really work. He could have taken off some songs too. I do think, it gets way too much hate. But it's not a bad album..I actually enjoy it. ANd as mentioned..I love the spiritual work and feel to it!

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I'm not sure if they even exist but it would be interesting to hear rehearsal tapes similar to what exists from the Sign 'O' the Times/Lovesexy era. Most of the complaints are regarding the "plastic" production but I suspect that if live rehearsal tapes do exist they sound much more organic.

Sure its a long album, But who and the hell is actually going to sit and listen to the whole thing through

I can bearly watch a 2 hour movie, yet alone a 3 hr one lol

Some tracks are skippable! Thats why I just ripped the tracks i like to Itunes and a portable devices
