MAN, I SLEPT on All Day, All Night Ok, once I finally got my ears on Prince's much vaunted IVault, I admit I was underwhelmed. Only Purple Music IMMEDIATLEY stood out as a gem. But lately I've revisited All Day, All Night and MAN, this is some FONKY ish!!! I had a few thoughts /questions. One, is there a cleaner version floating around? Two, the spoken word intro sounds like a precursor to Pheremone, Three, is Jill's version as funky/good? Does it have the intro. Last, how good were his performances of it during the European shows this past spring?
This has become my new "energy boost" when I'm driving while a little tired! Crank it up and groove out!

I've heard less than half of his vault material because, to me, most of these things did sound like throwaway material or stuff that wasn't complete in its conception.
Much of the vault sounds like demos for 20Ten, really.
There *are* a few stand outs, but for the most part, I think his boots released and that I've personally heard are fun for completists, but if they were released today, they wouldn't gain to much praise from a wider audience outside of the stunning volume of stuff.

Best copy of Prince's version can be found on "Perfect Unreleased Prince" volume two. Keep your headphones on.

Jill's version isn't nearly as good as Prince's original. Her version has the intro but unfortunately, she adds alot of screaming and yelling near the end....sounding as if she's losing her mind

Yeah..Im like...gurh it aint that serious..or maybe there wasnt enough music to pack the climactic punch...its still a highlight on the album but prince version seems more tight and thought out Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

The first time she screams is the sexiest scream ever recorded, IMO.

I'd vote for the lossless version on "Box O' Chocolates" over the mp3 version found on "Perfect Unreleased Prince." Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. I actually like the *perfect soundboard* version of the the birthday show 06-07-84, even though it lacks the initial rap (and one or two keyboard overdubs). But, in *includes* the bass line, which is *awesome*!!!!
I gotta find a way to mix the initial rap from the 'Box O Chocolates' version into this one without doubling the instrumental track....

I stand corrected - I forgot that BoC was released as flac. The "Perfect" one sounds fine though. However, just my opinion. Keep your headphones on.

My favorite version by far is the original live recording from the soundboard '84 birthday show. I love the stripped-down feel of the live version; the bass playing and drumming stand out more. For the studio version, Prince piled a lot of overdubs on the original live version, and IMO the result is a little overdone (maybe because I heard the live version first, I've always thought it was best as-is). Jill's is my least favorite version, I can't take her screaming, and the track sounds overproduced.

yes I agree with the main thread that the vault material out there is definately not his best stuff. Its cool to have but he definately put the best songs on the real cds. I do like Days of Wild and All Day All Night though
