5. Prince - My first exposure to Prince and I love it. Funk, rock, disco, slow jams and every single track sung in that sassy signature falsetto. I love the in your face gay feel of that entire era of Prince also. The bitch was fish and flaunting.

What happened to that Prince persona?????

Here's mine:

1. Purple Rain - Goes without saying

2. 1999 - Prince's first commercial crossover (not that that means its good) but this album is a great mix of fun/sex/paranoia. There are great party anthems "1999" and "DMSR" they make me feel good.

3. Sign "O" the Times - great body of work mixture of hip-hop, rock, pop, Christian, and jazz.

4. The Gold Experience - This needs to be back in print and unfortunately didn't get the marketing it deserved. THIS IS A GREAT ALBUM!

5. Musicology - His comeback album

I am surprised:

you choose to have Musicology over:

Parade,

Lovesexy

Around The World In A Day

wow, do you really love Musicology that much. eek

Different tastes.. None of his post-Warner-albums makes my Top 20.

(Except/ only TRC).

It happens, I was very surprised in my turn that you've put Batman after For You and Graffiti Bridge (which are way inferior, IMO).

Anyway I'm not understanding this looking down many fans are having on Musicology. Ok, it's not as good as any of his 80s albums, but it's certainly, for me, as a whole album, better than Planet Earth and 3121 (although both seem to get much more love), and besides, it has his best 00s song IMO: Illusion Coma Pimp and Circunstance.

01. Batman - This just rocks all the way through.02. Purple Rain - When I was younger, my parents always listened to old school radio stations. "When Doves Cry" always was the one song that stuck out to me the most, and was the first song (I want to say) that I heard from Prince. Purple Rain is just one of those albums that transcends time. I feel like the whole album just gets better and better with each listen. It was his first magnum opus.03. Come - It was a "different" kind of album from Prince. It's very underrated.04. Dirty Mind / 1999 - I'm cheating a bit here, but these two are nothing short of amazing. "Dirty Mind" is just vintage Prince.05. Sign 'O' The Times - Just showcases everything I love about Prince, brilliantly. His second magnum opus.I'm one of those fans that loves 99.5% of Prince's music, but these are the albums that get the most play from me.
Don't Cry - It's Only The Rhythm.

1. Purple Rain

A monster, hits you like a sledgehammer. Only good songs, including his masterpieces 'When doves cry' and 'Purple Rain'. Like someone said before here, a perfect album.

2. Sign 'o' the Times

A great, broad, adventurous album. Unique off-key songs like 'Sign', 'If I was your girlfriend'. Great instrumental ending in 'I could never take...'. My first Prince introduction in 1987, when I was 11 years old.

3. Parade

A lot of great, weird songs on a strange and sometimes inconsistent album. Like the other albums on this list, no one else could make this. Favourites: 'Anotherlover', 'Mountains', 'Kiss', 'Girls and Boys', 'Sometimes it snows'.

4. Lovesexy

Maybe not the strongest songs of his career, but incredible atmosphere and positive vibrations. I completely love the 'Eye know/Alphabet st/Glam Slam' start, with all the strange noises and voices. And how it ends like it began, with keyboard sounds and waterfall.

5. Dirty Mind

Dirty and incredibly funky. 'Uptown' is the great highlight for me, but every song is strong.

I am not as big a Prince follower as lots of you, although he is my favorite artist after the Beatles and I was a great fan at the end of the 80s, collecting bootlegs and all. For me, his prime is the 84-88 era when he was a unique and brilliant artist, always pushing boundaries. Since 'Batman' my interest has been slowly diminishing and after 'The love symbol' I have only bought some of his albums (like TGE, Emancipation, Musicology, 3121). I just have the feeling that his 80s period was his experimental, rock-period (of course helped by the Revolution until 86) and that in the 90s he became more content to settle in a more conventional R&B mode.

But I am sure lots of you all disagree and think I am missing out on a lot. Still, I love Prince a lot and I saw him live twice during the last three years, which was brilliant.
