The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Any Appreciation?

Hello All, Is there any appreciation out there for this 1993 hit? "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World," catulpulted P back on top when he was know as TAFKAP or The Glyph Man. There was news around that time that P didn't right that song, is there any truth about that? Why didn't he perform it on the WTA Tour? Please advise my curious mind?

I love this song so much, I can see why some wouldn't like it but I think it was his last truly great single. Such a beautiful romantic song. I don't know about him not writing it though, I'm pretty sure he did, it sure sounds like something he would write. I don't know exactly why he didn't perform it on the W2A tour, maybe since he had a lot of those types of songs on the setlist like Adore, The Beautiful Ones, and other songs like that. I think it is also one of his more difficult songs to sing but I still think he can pull it off.

Out of all the sacharine "pop" songs, this is one of the best. Especially the maxi-single, The Beautiful Experience. It's the only multiple-remix-of-the-same-song 12" singles that works for me. Most of the time, those just bore me and make me pine for the days of Side A being an extended version, Side B being an extended version of a b-side. TBE is great, though. Especially Sexy Staxaphone And Guitar, but I also love Staxowax & Flutestramental. The packaging on that 12" was badass too!! Love the 12" booklet inside!

cool

It's a brilliant piece of music.

I think some Prince fans have become far too accustomed to Prince as a performer and an artist if they consider it "saccharine". When this song came out it really stood out from the rest of the songs on the charts, because it sounded just plain weird to the average listener.

He uses his falsetto vocals in a rather edgy way and that is contrasted with the smooth flow of the music. Then there are those powerful drum breaks and everything else... it's put together really well and the different parts complement each other perfectly.

Its Prince's biggest independent hit. It would have made it to number #! if it wasn't for the R Kelly hit "Bump & Grind". But this song is never mentioned in anyone's favorite Prince slow jams. Prince did play it on the W2A tour. But only in Karaoke segment....It was a vindicated hit for Prince. Since he was feuding at the time with The WB. Because of its success. Warners put a halt to the missed hit "LOVESIGN".. another "mASTERpIECE".............

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I always loved this song, the album version makes it a bit more exciting, but I like the single version too. It's totally cheesy...and I loooove it!

It did make it to # 1 in Holland. A little too much of a sweet pop song for my liking, but in that genre it's a good piece of work. Just a shame that after the success of this one, he must have gotten the idea that a slow song had the most chance of becoming a hit, so he started boring us with Betcha by Golly, Greatest Romance...while there were much better songs on those albums

It's probably his best and most consistent straight-out pop song. It's quite genius, actually.

A hit song usually has to be very smooth and slick BUT contain some tiny little irregularity to make it stand out and remain in someone's memory (even if only subconsciously). I love how Prince achieved that by moving the backing vocals for the last chorus a couple of beats further back (on the single version). When I realised that I thought to myself (yeah, this actually makes the song what it is, even if it only happens for a couple of seconds.

Listen at 3:54 (on the single version only). It's such a brilliant little detail. I'm convinced this made half of the song.

It's an Amazing song. P's Vocals are off the charts and it's just a happy song. PRINCE DID WRITE this song and the lawsuit song doesn't sound anything like this song to me atleast.

Still his only #1 in the uk. I think it's a beautiful, old-fashioned song that could've been written in the late 60s. Amazing vocals.

The only thing I hate is the clipart sound effects of ticking clocks. Ugh.

YES, really love this song!! mushy I remember when Prince sang it at the SECC 1995 during the Gold tour & he kinda couldn't get his register right, first it was low then he went high singing it & it was kinda mixed up. There must've been something putting him off his stride! ha ha wink But the Mustang mix always wins it for me!

Agreed. That bridge is something. Lyrics spot on lovey but not gag worthy. Moment at 3:44 is the best to me. Brother always broke it down and rode a song til it reached MAX potential. There's still so much that could of been done with this song. I definitely understand why Kevin Smith wanted to use it for a hot girl opening scene. God! If he let his music be used in any capacity for the public- he'd be blowing up.

I agree - not song, but single. Just pure pop perfection (and fun to play, too!).

Gotta be the single version for me, though - the album version is too glitzy and overblown.

Yeah Prince has had some great songs since but his singles have been underwhelming post-WB.

I think the reason he doesn't really play it live all that often is that he doesn't seem to make it work all that well when he does. Those vocals and the sheer delicacy of it is hard to get right, I suppose.

It's a great single though. One of his better ones, I find. Pure romance. Sinatra meets Smokey Robinson meets - well - Prince.

And that video puts a final touch to the whole thing that just brings tears to my eyes.

Good tears.

Utter genius.

I suspect he doesn't play it live much because it's painful for him and reminds him of Mayte.

I have a mashup mix that turns the original, and Mayte's "The Most Beautiful Boy In The World" into a duet. Orger Ernest Sewell made it, and it's awesome.

sounds cool, i love the version on The Dawn, with the flutestramental version segueing into it.

Nope, no love here, a song written quickly to prove a point to his record company that he could write a "hit" sing if he wanted to. Same with "I knew I loved you" by Savage Garden, both went on to become huge hits for both artists and the record companies have made lots of money
