PRINCE PROFITS FROM BOOTLEGS!

If it weren't for bootlegs, I wouldn't be half--no, make that a quarter--of the Prince fan that I am! I think it was late 1990 when I came upon a "rare" cd in a used record store--and let me tell you, I have never been the same since. I discovered this side of Prince that not only did I not know had existed, I could not have even fathomed he'd be able to explode on the guitar like he did on 'Just My Imagination' or the keyboard improvisation on "People Without', or the simple jamming by his band on the 'intro'. Bootlegs opened a door for me that would have never been there had it not been for me picking up 'Small Club 2nd Show that Night' by X records in a used record store. So yeah, there are some haters out there who think Prince is being "robbed" by the bootlegs, etc., but I personally think PRINCE PROFITS FROM BOOTLEGS! Not in the sense that he cuts deals with the bootleg companies, but in the sense that bootlegs keep alive his fan's interests long enough to buy his next album, long enough to buy an album like "Rainbow Children", for example, which most people on this earth don't even know exists.
Thank goodness for bootlegs! musicheadbang

You neglected to point out the small matter of bootleggers making a huge profit from Prince on account of him being so prolific in the studio and fans' seemingly insatiable appetite for even more product.

Apart from that I tend to agree with much of what you say.

Huge profit?? I don't think any bootlegger of Prince makes a huge profit. I'd be curious to know how much those companies rake in, but my hunch is that the so called "head of the company" is a big Prince fan and makes enough cash to keep on doing what he's doing, but is not out there driving Porsche 911 convertibles or anything. But then again, I could be wrong. What do you think?

mmmhhh, sometimes I think Prince IS involved in some of the good bootlegs.

Just think about the Moonraker, Sabotage etc. boots.

Maybe he is the person behind those "companies', hmm?

Bootlegs were the tip-off that there was more to Prince than met the eye!

If there were NO bootlegs, and only had "Rave", "NPS", "Chaos and Disorder", etc. as evidence of what Prince is capable of,or has been up to, Prince's career would be D.O.A. Flatline, baby!

That's not being too harsh- Prince has seen to it that he is not on a label, which means no videos, promotions, or air-play.Prince also shut down fan websites, has he not?, and the media seems to not see his activities worth reporting anymore. Prominent music magazines like Rolling Stone don't even bother reviewing new releases like "One Nite Alone Live!"

"Crystal Ball" owes it's existance as a retort to circulating boots. So that album wouldn't exist otherwise.

I've listened to "Cookie Jar" a lot more than "Mr.Happy",dig? Shortly after buying "Rave un2", I bought a boot and my head nearly exploded in a time-warp to 1986 when "In A Large Room With No Light" squirted out the speakers! Holy crap!- that's the Prince I remember! That's the Prince I dig! I remember him! That's what's missing from "Rave un2"!

Then I think, what else is he keeping from us? Boy, that vault must be a treasure chest!

The boots give him a mysterious side, like Prince is a weird music Madman is his lab cooking up all kinds of Funk! That certainly keeps my interest having a pulse more than that nerd with the blue tin-foil jumpsuit and pig-tails on the cover of "Rave"!

Also, I like the crappy sound quality of boots, It's like you 're listening to something dirty, and secretive. Listen to "Cookie Jar" for example: it's bass is thicker and throbbier and filthy! A cleaned-up "Balck Album" wasn't as cool because it wasn't like something violated, dig?

So to summarize, the boots actually have done more to keep the mystery and career of Prince going than any offical product released by Prince since 1988!

yes - you stated it perfectly. Except for the crappy sound quality part... I'm always wishing to find everything in perfect quality...

You don't feel NPS? You need to give it a few more listens, but your point is right on the mark!

Oh, I definitely dig on that! And you can add Electric Intercourse, Computer Blue extended version, I Wonder, Old Friends For Sale, Alphabet St. Blues to that list!

The boots give him a mysterious side, like Prince is a weird music Madman is his lab cooking up all kinds of Funk! That certainly keeps my interest having a pulse more than that nerd with the blue tin-foil jumpsuit and pig-tails on the cover of "Rave"!

The boots do give him the mysterious side. He used to be mysterious, until he decided to start granting interviews and make the public aware of his lack of education.

Also, I like the crappy sound quality of boots, It's like you 're listening to something dirty, and secretive. Listen to "Cookie Jar" for example: it's bass is thicker and throbbier and filthy! A cleaned-up "Black Album" wasn't as cool because it wasn't like something violated, dig?

Once again my brother, I dig! Old Friends for Sale and Computer Blue extended ain't the same if they're crystal clear quality. It's as if you're listening to a treasure that was secretly acquired--all my friends trip when I put on the slightly altered quality of songs that I have--then they know they're about to get hit with some deep shit. For example, 'Sometimes It Snows in April' on electric guitar from the Paisley Park parties of '95! That shit is off the hook--and listening to it with slightly distorted sound only enhaces the experience!

So to summarize, the boots actually have done more to keep the mystery and career of Prince going than any offical product released by Prince since 1988!

You r the man warning2all! Thank you for seeing my point!
