A long time ago at another messageboard I frequent alot, we played a fun game where the locals tried to commit blasphemy: Take the 2 LP White Album from the Beatles and crank out a condensed 1 LP version pretty much. Which songs would you leave on? Which would you kick out?

So let's try to play that game with Prince albums that were released with multi-discs or (originally) double LPs. 1999, SOTT, GRAFFITI BRIDGE, EMANCIPATION, and so forth. (Try LOTUSFLOWER/MPLSound too? I mean other than that protegee disc that nobody listened to.)

The songs you can only pick are those on those albums that exist. You can't substitute them with B-sides or outtakes or anything foreign that weren't from those albums originally.

Now take in mind also the time constraints. If I remember correctly, both sides of a LP had what 40 minutes of music together? Take the song lengths into consideration on that front.

With something like EMANCIPATION, each of those CDs were 60 minutes each. So on that one, try to make a 1 disc version (or 2 disc if you can plan one out) that each were 60 minutes. Or not, I mean its your choice.

Have fun kids. Be creative. Be practical if you wish. I know the idea for me of 1999 and SOTT as just one LP is hard to phantom, but that's part of the fun.

I love it how haphazard those fanmade Emancipation 1 disc tracklists usually are. The best part is when people also insist that it would have been a hit had it been released as they've listed the 12 songs.

I have a feeling this could have been a hit.

I tried to create a one-album '1999' album but I just can't do it That album is a masterpiece from beginning to end.It would be crazy to remove anything from it.

It's easy to compile an excellent one-disc Emancipation album.There is so much filler on it.I would start by removing the four remakes

Well, my 1999 cd is only one disc, so I leave it as is!

But growing up, I could only fit so much on one side of the tape, so I never heard the end until later. But the album I had was still maybe Prince's best ever
