p.s.- my creepiest "Poom Poom" memory was Prince's outdoor concert performance on the Today Show in 1998 with Larry Graham & Chaka Khan promo-ing the "Newpower Pak" set. During the performances there was this weird super-skinny kid by the stage holding up a BIG plackard with, in BIG black letters POOM POOM! 99% of America probably said to themselves "What the hell is Poom Poom?"What the hey would motivate a kid to make that sign? He must have been one hell of a POOM POOM fan,. So there's DEFINITELY one!

"weird"!..."super-skinny"! Do I know you...or better yet, do you know me? I'm sure I don't remember talking to you (unless you were the girl from connecticut) so how can you say I'm weird or not? Suddenly having a good time at a free Prince show in NYC with your mates is weird...yeah, I'm weird then! Poom Poom became kind of a joke for me and my friends so I brought it to almost every show. We had a bet that if I brought the sign to as many shows as i went to, Prince would finally play it for me. I lost the bet, cuz he never played it at a show I was at. Ain't that a b@*#h!

I just remember being totally stunned bu that sign: it haunts me and I think of it every time I skip that track!

...Do you have a "We Gets Up" sign sitting around anywhere?

I'm not insulting you, you just made me totally laugh, because taking the time to make, and carry around a Poom Poom sign it totally bizarre to me! Mark David Chapman weird!

It's so ludicrous! Maybe I'll make a "Right the Wrong" sign for the next concert!

I think Poom Poom is a funky fun song, and not once in it does he suggest the way I live my life or shove the Bible down my throat, maybe that's why I love it so much???

probably not considering your orgname.

You do whatever makes you smile.smile

What's weird is that the sight of some "super-skinny" guy holding a sign at a concert makes you think of mark david chapman...that is far scarier than me actually writing it and bringing it to the show. Talk about creepy! nuts

Have you been to many concerts before? Just curious. Because every show I've ever been to has had multiple signs with ludicrous requests/statements...and I'm not just talking about Prince shows.

Oh well, it's cool. The world is full of many colorful people and I just happen to be one of them! Glad I could make you laugh! It's kind of an honor that you've remembered me and that sign all this time. When I listen to Poom Poom, I just think about that friend I had the bet with (and the beat of the song)...not a sign. peace.

Some Prince fans around here need to get a sense of humor. Not everything the man releases has to change the world musically. Occasionally, a fun, funny, no-nonsense song like Poom Poom should be made and by golly, I will enjoy it!

break it down...

Calling 'Poom Poom' no nonsense is like describing Howard Stern's radio show as no nonsense.

Poom Poom and Baconskin are FUN songs! Lighten up! And what he decides to bring out of HIS vault is his choice. He's a fun person - everything doesn't have to be some "perfect" musical composition based on some stringent technical music criteria. And we sure don't want him to only put out what the mass media and mainstream public would approve of.

And I love Jughead - it's a hoot!! :wOOT:

I don't understand all the negativity for some of Prince's songs. I just don't get it! One of his main attributes is variety. Some people seem to want to pidgeon hole him into some kind of narrow tunnel - don't stray off this path Prince or we won't love you anymore. Geeezzz!

Aah! I hear you.

Maybe that would pull in some of the public to check out some of his "other" music.

unfortunately, i don't think anything will pull the general public back in at this point. luckily for some of us, we don't all judge how good a prince song is just by whether or not the "mainstream" would like it.

The only thing wrong with "Poom Poom" is the redundant chorus.
Two POOM POOM's would've sufficed.

NOTHING IS WORSE THAN "JUGHEAD and/or STROLLIN'" ill

YOU DON'T LIKE STROLLIN???
