I wished to see genre blending artists, for Prince is a multiple genre artist (pop rnb soul rock gospel mpl sound dance etc), so I wish to see:
Joni Mitchell Kate Bush (The moody songs. And God Created Woman? If I Was Your Girlfriend? Solo? WOW!) David Bowie Esperanza Spalding Beck Brazilian Caetano Veloso is a great songwriter that mixes a lot of Brazilian and foreign genres in his work since the late 60s, and could make brilliant versions of Prince's songs
Also would like to see: Lauryn Hill D'Angelo Cee Lo Green Outkast (ideal for the more playful funk songs, examples: La la la hee hee hee or Erotic City) Carlos Santana Madonna (like it or not, she owns some of the greatest songs in pop music history, just like Prince) Lady Gaga (yes, I think she's talented) Christina Aguilera (she sung bits on 1999 and Kiss in a medley on the Voice program and it was amazing, I think she's a wonderful singer who UNDERSTANDS rnb and soul) Fiona Apple (a powerful interpretation to a more introspective song like Eye Love U But Eye Dont Trust U Anymore maybe?) Bjork Elton John Paul McCartney (why not? - Take Me With U, She Loves Me 4 Me, Around the world in a day, Play in the Sunshine would all work)
Rolling Stones (why not? - Sign o the Times, Girls & Boys, Anotherloverholeinyohead, Controversy, Dirty Mind, many songs would turn out awesome versions!)
Robert Plant & Jimmy Page (again, why not? - maybe Bambi, Uptown, Delerious, America, Tambourine, I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, even a hard funk like Gett Off would be awesome!)
And Prince's fellow rnb geniuses: Smokey Robison Aretha Franklin Stevie Wonder Chaka Khan Patti Labelle (these last two, certainly two of the GREATEST SINGERS of all time, absolutely no problem would I see in them singing Prince again)
Off the modern rock bands... Not sure. Are there any rock bands who are brilliant enough (yes, maybe Killers, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Jack White, Black Keys), but to do Prince? (don't know....) For me, rock n roll glory days are long gone.
Those came to mind right now.
BTW, going and and then again every time I read U2 in this thread. Think I even saw Green Day somewhere. No problem Jgreco7. Saw it on Drfunkenberry's page, and thought I'd post it here. I notice though that the carnegieprince.com website did not update any info as far as adding more artists, since D'Angelo, Meshell ndegeocello's names were taken off, the list, and I could sworn Living Colour's band name was listed there as well, prior to D'Angelo and Meshell's. That site is very slow on updating info.

I posted DrF's comments about that from his blog, in reply #141 on this thread. Maybe Drfunkenberry can reconfirm that info on his Spreecast show tonight or on this thread. Just never know, anything can change. [Edited 1/30/13 7:08am]

Okay, I found the actual article where DrF mentions that on his blog, dated 1/27/13;see the highlighted excerpt below from DrF's blog:
Also, just to confirm that DrF mentioned Prince attending the Carnegie Hall tribute last week on his blog, here is DrF's reconfirmation of that info that he tweeted today, reconfirming that information. See his tweet below:

Eye pulled a little Jedi Mind trick w/VIP tix so eye could b assured of attending the afterparty @ City Winery... I dont think it will turn in 2 a Prince aftershow per se, but the letter from Michael Dorf indicates they expect some suprise guests performing throughout the afterparty got Prince?

I think after Prince learns that Susannah Melvoin is going to be there, Prince is going to "catch a cold" and not attend. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

NICE ADDS!! Curious about the setlist. Just hope Elvis Costello doesn't sing again Purple Rain, nor D'Angelo sings She's Always in My Hair. That would be disappointing. Best to go with no high expectations and just wait until the show happens. I was happy to see D'Angelo back on the list, and glad to see that Alice Smith was added..
