Adam Levine..good choice. Didn't he do one of Prince's songs on that 'Voice' show?

I think it would be cool to have musicians/artists that can capture all the flavors of music Prince performs. They definitely have to know how to bring the Funk, CocoRock, Soul ballads, R&B upbeat songs, Poprock, Pop ballads, Jazz, Rockabilly, Bluesrock, etc. of Prince. Nothing watered-down. For all we know that show may be an orchestra playing his music with no entertainers.

Icons - either a presentation or perform a song of his:

Stevie Wonder

Patti LaBelle,

Chaka Khan

Larry Graham

Carlos Santana

Lenny Kravitz

Adam Levine

Joni Mitchell

Maybe 1 or 2 songs from:

Sheila E

Members of the Revolution, Andre Cymone, Dez Dickerson - all do a performance together

Maya Rudolph and her Princess group

Newer/Artists that could be introduced as Prince being inspired by their music/and that he's worked/performed with recently:

Janelle Mona

Lianne La Havas

Anna Moura

Esperanza Spalding

Andy Allo

Then Prince with his current NPG band (including the 3 backup singers) do the finale.

In any other circumstance eye would say Prince wouldn't show up. But with his upcoming blockbuster "MasterPiece" new album set to come out next year 2013(which will also coincide with his Masters). This will be the ultimate promotion 4 Princey. He will be there...<

What is this talk of this Masterpiece album?? Is this confirmed??

I got a ticket, given the doubtfulness of any type of Prince US tour, it hopefully will fill a void for a while.

Interestingly, there is a VIP package that includes tickets to an "aftershow". If Prince does show up, that might be an interesting venture, but I am not willing to spend $300 to take a chance.

This could be Really Good. Or Really Bad. I hope they get some amazing performers that will do his catalog justice. Please Please no drake or any rappers. Patti can come and kick off her shoes again..lol Who would you like to see in the line-up?

Yes it can go really well or not... the best tribute show I've seen was the 1999 one that Questlove & Vernon Reid curated for the Brooklyn Academy of Music back in December 1999. That was a great show... The covers were imaginative, refreshing, and inventive, and featured under the radar type of performers who were really good, like Joan Osborne (who rocked Little Red Corvette) and Bilal who took control of International Lover.

I suspect for this Carnegie Show they will go in a more artsy like direction... probably get some jazz, classic funk, rock sounds. No protege types. And I doubt Prince will show up or perform.

If it goes this route, I would totally take a flight out there and maybe even go for the $300 package.

Stevie Wonder

The Time

Sheila E

Chaka Khan

Lenny Kravitz

Stevie Nicks

Not a bad lineup. I could see Stevie Wonder singing some of Prince's more political/Planet Earth type tracks. Sheila E playing his latin-flavored tracks. Chaka Khan singing his more upbeat r&b soul tracks along with Patti LaBelle. The Time doing Prince's Minneapolis sound. Lenny can definitely do Prince's popular rock and blues-rock tracks, no question, and maybe add Joni Mitchell to the list to do his pop ballads. Maceo doing P's jazz and funk tracks. I think musicians/artists he's had a close or long-term, music history with or whose music he was influenced by, should be doing some of the tributes. I honestly don't know why some of his fans though, tend to belittle P's r&b/soul flavor, when he has so many, beautiful, soul and blues ballads.

[Edited 12/22/12 20:03pm]

confused I don't know 'bout that. Chaka seem to be slippin in her old age. Last time I heard her sing live, she was awful.

That is as close to perfect as you can get. A great blend of artists from the genres of music Prince has mastered and influenced. I hope the organizers book these kind of artists.

Well seeing how she's been friends with him for so long, and he wrote songs for her, yes I could see her being one of the performers/presenters at this tribute.

Don't see why he should have a problem with a tribute show, considering how many covers he himself does in his own concerts, as a way of paying tribute to his own influences.

I was surprised he showed up to the BET Awards tribute in 2010. It looked like he felt uncomfortable and it says something when he showed up 3/4 of the show and left after the presentation was over. I dont think Prince is the kind of guy that relishes these kind of things. Like when MJ had the MSQ tribute to himself. If it's short and quick I think he'll go it, but long stuff like this is understandly embarrassing. Even when it's deserved.

The only way he'd go for it is if he gets to control it. Being a JW has not diminished his capacity to be a control freak or an egomaniac.

This is a tribute show Prince does not need to be there. If this tribute is anything like the tribute show like was done for Curtis Mayfield at Avery Fisher Hall back in June, then it will be great.I went to that tribute which his old group. THE impressions was there also,Mavis Staples,Bilal,Sinead O Connor; The Roots,Meshell Ndegeocello and more excellent show. Like i said Prince dies not need there this is a tribute to him,but the artist i would pick to oerform would be:
The Revolution
Sheila E.
Bilal
Meshell Ndegeocello
The Roots
Alicia Keys
Andre 3000
Mint Condition
Frank Ocean
Pharrell
Trey Songz
Cyndi Lauper
Robin Thicke
Andre Cymone
Q Tip
Sinead O Connor
Chaka Khan
India Arie
Musiq
Jill Scott
