This has nothing to do with the Jehovah Witness faith, if you research the true history of "Christmas" you would know the birth of Christ has nothing to do with this pagan holiday. And everything he is saying is fact. Those who laugh and call Prince crazy, simply is afraid of acknowledging this truth. Many pagan festivals, including Christmas (Saturnalia), Easter (the festival of Ishtar), Halloween, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day and worship on the day of the Sun, were observed throughout the Roman Empire long before Christ’s First Coming. The apostate false church simply adopted them into practice, and enforced them on all citizens in the empire through the vehicle of the civil government....READ PEOPLE!! OPEN YOUR MIND!!
Regardless of where the holiday came from, no one that is putting up Christmas trees and giving gifts are bowing down and worshipping the tree as if it were some sort of God or something. And since nobody knows for sure the actual date of Jesus's birthday, I see no problem with choosing a date to celebrate. And there are even people that don't even believe in God or Jesus who celebrate Christmas because it's simply a fun time of year and what is so all fired evil about selecting a date to celebrate and have fun? Several religions have their own holidays around this time of year besides just Christmas and I see nothing wrong with folks celebrating whatever they want to celebrate and not knocking other folks for the particular holiday they celebrate.
Where the pain in the ass comes from is when someone wants to preach to folks and tell them they shouldn't celebrate it. If someone doesn't want to celebrate, that's fine but this preaching against it is a pain in the ass. My father isn't a Jehovah's Witness but whatever his little cult is, is very similar to it. My mother tried to put up a Christmas tree one year and that loony toon threw it out in the middle of the front yard fully decorated at the curb for the garbage truck to pick it up. Of course, she cussed him out and told him that her family wasn't a nitwit like he is and her kids were going to have a normal Christmas just like everyone else and if he wanted to sit alone at home on Christmas like a fool, that was his choice. And every year when we gathered at my grandmother's house on my mother's side of the family, if anyone offerred my mother fruitcake, she always replied, "No thanks, I left my husband at home".
There's nothing wrong with not celebrating Christmas but to try to tell other folks they shouldn't celebrate it and condemn them to hell for it, yes, that's a loony toon and when I hear rants like this coming from Prince of all people, I taste a little vomit in my throat because I used to hear the same rants from my own father who is the most miserable, racist, evil person I know disguised as a saint.
Well this has nothing to do with Prince stance on Christmas, this has to do with your own personal relationship with your father, I'm sorry to hear he ruined ur Christmas cheer, but knowing that you are celebrating a pagan God, and not the birth of Christ, is a bit disheartening won't you say? |

I'm not celebrating a Pagan holiday, nor the birth of Christ. I'm celebrating the most fun time of the year with two days off work with pay. Whatever the origins of it may be, who the hell cares? It's simply a fun time of year, that's all. As for someone like Prince, or anyone else thinking they're hipping the world to it's origins, most people don't give a damn about it's origins. All they want to do is have fun and there is nothing wrong with having fun. I'm for celebrating every holiday there is and even creating new holidays to celebrate because there can never be too much fun and paid holidays off of work. Hell, there's some pretty green grass outside, let's create a grass holiday, get a paid holiday for it, and celebrate it. Andy is a four letter word. |

Dude invent a new holiday and I will celebrate it with you. You are right on point. I love the fruitcake line by the way. Your mum sounds cool. By the way, seeing as you like the idea of arbritrarily picking festivals to celebrate just for the hell of it you may want to add the Jewish festival of Purim to your calendar. I wont go into the reasons for celebrating it (yet another failed attempt to exterminate all the Jews) but basically it's just a big fancy dress party where you are commanded to get drunk. A cult starts by a man/woman, who uses his knowledge to manipulates and controls people for his own will, giving peope knowledge and letting them chosing to believe it or not, is not someone being closed minded, but being open to ALL knowldge and making up their OWN descions on what they want to believe, based on their own personal experience and reality, not blindly following the faith and belief of others..... please never defend yourself in a court of law. blah blah blah |

At the time I thought Prince was just being a total bummer on a fun season.
Now I think he was on point. And despite the Princebonics I think he wrote it well. Christmas has gotten very well in the way of Christ. Gross materialism harms our relationship with God, and sadly that's exactly what Christmas is really all about. I think it's gotten WAY worse in recent years - or maybe I've just opened my eyes to it. |

So. Fucking. Sad.
It's so nice to be able to spend time with family, exchanging gifts, mucking in together in the kitchen and making each other laugh playing silly games. Some have a religious belief and others have a human belief, but getting along with love and friendship is really the only thing that matters.
That the church shoehorned Christ's birth into an existing festival is not something th & that bothers me. |

What do you mean the real thing? What on earth does Christ have to do with a heathen? And why should they talk about something that isn't part of their religion, simply because another religion came along and shoehorned another belief on top of theirs?
Why can't those that celebrate a pagan festival that predates Christianity do so without their beliefs being attacked? blah blah blah |

You need two to create a difference.
And why should they talk about something that isn't part of their religion, simply because another religion came along and shoehorned another belief on top of theirs?
That is the whole thing.
They could have eradictaed the pagan stuff 101% and given the new festivities new dates.
But they didn't.
Why can't those that celebrate a pagan festival that predates Christianity do so without their beliefs being attacked?
So shopping for Satan Claws is a pagan festival?

I tell ya, in these days I think most people realize that we don't know Jesus actual dob but somehow people like Prince think it's news.
I like celebrating the spirit of the season and I say let folks celebrate as they see fit, whether spiritual or secular and leave the finger wagging for another time. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

So we've moved onto consumerism now instead of Pagans?
And are you saying that they should be thankful that Christianity 'merely' took over and attempted to destroy those festivals by stomping their religious beliefs on top, rather than come up with their own dates? How would you feel if another religion such as Islam or Hinduism did the same thing now to these once Pagan, now Christian festivals? blah blah blah |

Not really, but now that you write it, it sounds quite good and humanist etc to leave room for others to coexist.

Free to a certain extent, yes.
Still a slave to the system. (the financial side)
Still data-mined by whoever for no good reason.
Life's too short to break really free, although there's still a small chance.
Or I might take the unexpected approach or consider a radical deed?

the commercialization of christmas is pretty gross though. and the fact that 'retailers' are trying to generate 30% of their annual revenue through sales during 'christmas' is gross too, imo.
so imo the satan claws poem is right on, insofar as it addresses commercial sales and greed as being the antithesis of the true christmas spirit. |
