that song has been in my head lately due to those events

wish he would get inspiried the same way he did with controversy album and bring out tracks like that...i truely admire the musical direction he was going in 1981, it was raw and energetic

of course prince is not young anymore and now perfers to wear pants but i still think he has that rude boy in him

Until recently, I believed that the 2nd amendment was still an important part of the balance of power in the US. I now realized that ordinary citizens have been out gunned for a long time now. There should be major restrictions on the buying, selling, and owning of firearms. There is no need for there to be 30+ rounds in a magazine (or whatever the bullet storage is called). They should limited the amount that a gun can hold to 5 or 6. That would save lives.

As for the mental health issue, lack of mental health services is an issue. People need to be educated about mental illness. There is a tremendous stigma attached to mental illness and it prevents people from getting the help they need. Many health insurances don't cover mental illness. That needs to change.

Does not matter how many childeren were killed, 1 is too many. You can limit guns to a single shot zip gun. Guess what, criminals will not use those.

To make the song even more timely, he mentions Lennon's murder, which happened a 2 weeks ago in 1980.

Or something.

He wasn't ahead of his time... It doesn't take Nostradamus to predict "gun violence will happen".

Still a great song though, extremely unique in his catalogue. I can't think of another song that even comes close to the sound - the eastern-flavored keyboard, the extremely buried but furious guitar, the slightly out-of-sync vocal tracks... dammit, off to the record player I go!

I remember Prince saying when John Lennon was murdered that is when he hired "Big Chick". That murder must have really scared & woke Prince up.

I've already had enough trouble with stalker and scary guys being a normal person. I'm very happy I'm not famous or a star. I really like anonimity.

Not jalous at all at start who can't walk around in the US. I guess that is why so many stars like to be in France or Netherlands. There is some decency left here. When Brat Pitt had his house in Amsterdam, his phone number was listed in the phone book, under the name of B. Pitt.

Exactly wrong. When people make shitty music you don't ban guitars. Guns are not the problem, mental health issues and education are the problem. Our culture is the problem. More people die each year in car accidents. Let's ban cars, too. At least when people die in DRUNK driving accidents the law targets the real problem, (being drunk) and not the false problem, (the cars).

I don't think he was ahead of his time. I don't remember anything about the Atlanta child murders. I do remember John Lennon getting killed. That was shocking, but when the assasination attempt was made on Reagan, that was BIG TIME. I was in third grade, and my teacher's son also went to the same school, but in a higher grade. He came running into the classroom to tell his mother that the president had been shot. That's when people started going off on gun control. I know it's been a hot button issue ever since.

Maybe he was inspired by Some Time In New York City by John and Yoko with the Plastic Ono Band. Political songs with a short shelf life, literally ripped from the newspapers.

Coincidence? Lennon had just been murdered so maybe he saw that album cover somewhere and it gave him an idea. But who knows.

One difference though is that Controversy is a classic and Some Time is a piece of crap.
