Prince Writes Tribute to Dick Clark in 12/21 Entertainment Weekly On newsstands now:
Dick Clark Nov. 30, 1929 - April 18, 2012
By Prince
Dick Clark was always very generous and kind 2 us whatever the circumstance. He would call U personally and always speak with grace and candor that is rare in an industry that is rife with gamesmanship. That kinda class is sorely missed. Not sure why but Mr. Clark seemed 2 genuinely like me, and Eye liked him also.

Clark died of a heart attack in Santa Monica. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

This sentence makes me sad. Prince doesn't expect people to like him? |

Not without wanting something from him. "Climb in my fur."

"Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

^ Prince was 20, it was before june, in early 1980 iirc, therefor Prince was not yet 21 at the time.

Haha idk but Prince lied about his age in the video he said he was 19.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
it was jan 1980... 80-58 = 22 but he had not had his birthday so he would be 21...
but that 19 was part of myth of the day. They shaved 2 years. if you have seen the AB appearance prince seems uneasy when asked about his age. but then again he was uneasy with all the questions. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I think that is what they told Dick "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
ah, you are right, and yes he did cut 2 years off his age..
Prince also thanked Dick Clark in his speech at the American Music Awards, 1995.
something like/ by memory: "thanks to Dick Clark for finally letting me put Prince to bed".
(By memory, please correct me if this is totally wrong..). Prince 4Ever. ![]()

IF PRINCE THINKS SO HIGHLY OF DICK THEN WHY WAS HE DISRESPECTFUL TO HIM ?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Maybe that's just how he felt at the time when he was starting out. He was ridiculed a lot for his appearance and the themes he used in his music. I suppose a lot of people weren't really willing to let him perform on TV or write about him in a favourable manner in magazines in the beginning.

Are you talking about his behavior on the show over 30 years ago? Young people do and say things that seem okay at the time. Hell... older people do, too.
The article was written from the perspective of a man in his 50s in 2012... You don't think he could have gained respect for Mr. Clark over the years?

Prince is a class act. Don't know why peeps always say he is mean. This is the first time he has written a statement on anyone after their death. It shows the respect he always had for Dick & Dick had 4 him. The statement is profound & very heart felt. Go on Princey..Do U... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Prince accepted an award of achievement on the American Music Awards in 1990 (presented by Anita Baker; AMAs were Dick Clark's show, essentially). One of the first (if not THE first) people Prince thanked in a very humble speech was Dick Clark. His weird behavior in 1979 on American Bandstand didn't come as a surprise to Dick Clark, and Clark clearly never held it against him. This short tribute from Prince isn't the first time he's had kind words for Dick Clark. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. Wow. It's refreshing to read smething Prince said or wrote that sounded...human. Perhaps he does have the capacity to write an autobigraphy.

Aww, well I like you Prince, even though I've never met you. It's because of mine eyes view and your music.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Nah that ain't it "Do you really know what love is?"
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Yes it is. I have proof. "Climb in my fur."
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Comments like these should not be abnormal . The only way I truly understand another is to approach that understanding and all other forms of love is with my true higher self . Which should not be separate .And Dick Clark also shares the same day of the month in which I entered this world. Thank you Mr Clark ,Respect and thanks for the lessons.

Speaking for myself, when u are a private & guarded person u tend make it a challenge sometimes for people to get close or get to know u & sometimes that makes u question whether a person really genuinely likes u or is trying to get into your business...maybe it was like that for Prince..
