i understand now since the org has changed in the last few years to a nasty little bitter place that i cant admit to loving it so i'll just stick to the former statement

all my work mates(is he still around etc) love it too however forgive me as i have just read the consensus on here and lo! its actually not very good(apparently)

You're not ignorant, its a decent song. 75% of the people who are criticising are only doing it out of habit and dumbassery.

I also quite like R&RLA. It's very listenable. Has a good drive behind it.

the song sounds like a better song from Cliff Richard, country-pop and very light weight..

it's not funky at all. I dislike the sound and the melody, well there is no melody at all.

I don't mind being called "ignorant", or even "idiot" or "moron".

cuz, the fact/ truth is.. "Rock & Roll Love Affair" is just really awful.

ps. I don't hate the artist Cliff Richard, his 1980s hit songs like "Wired For Sound", "Some People", "We Don't Talk Anymore".. those are actually much better than the latest from Prince.

Jony- so right about wat u said bout the org lol, I came back for the first time in like 3 years to see such nasty more agressive place lol. And Rdhull hit the target. People criticising this song are just doing it cause it isn't the most princey song ever.

i have to agree. its fresh in a sly kind of grows-on-me way. very danceable. the ending is sublime.

I'm a fan of R&RLA too. A million times better than all but one song on 20Ten. I think it would be much better if the guitar was removed from the mix. The synth and horns sound pretty nice

For me the problem with RnR Affair is that its very catchy i cant get it out of my head, but i know that it is not great Prince song in comparison to for example his Mplsound stuff.

What makes me smile is you're right, it's a nice song that you want to huuuum whenever, just like all those 80's songs we love.

oh it is a good song... but it is in there with how ever many other 100s of prince songs so it is hard to be a stand out against all that... Prince said it best "My only competition is… well, me in the past"

I kinda like it too, the main hook stays in one's mind indeed and I understand what Prince was tryin to do here. In a recent interview he raved about how good some other composer was at telling stories, and it's obviously what he mostly wanted to accomplish with R&R: great storytelling. I'm with him even though it's not my usual kinda song.
