does prince have the rights over his first four albums yet ? i am wondering if anyone knows if the rights to his first couple of albums have been passed from warners to prince yet ?...i was under the impression he got them after 30 years had passed since they were released ?...the reason i am asking is that all his warner brothers albums are still available on spotify...i would imagine if prince had all the rights to the early albums...he would have pulled these off spotify and other internet websites...

I'm sure if you search this has been discussed a dozen times or more.
He told the Peach & Black guys that he had the first ones, the org disagrees and says it can only happen after 35 years if he's lucky. So, believe Prince or believe the org!
In any case, it doesn't matter, it's not like we're going to get remasters of them anyway are we?? RIP  | |

i have to agree with theenglishgent here. does it really matter if prince has them or not? it just seems very unlikely that he'll do something sensible with them at this point so i'm kind of beyond caring at this stage.
just writing that down makes me kind of sad, but there it is, that's what's come of all the waiting and baiting prince keeps doing. i'm actually losing interest. whatever he says, it can't be trusted or he changes his mind an hour later. at this point i'll just take what he'll release but i won't care about it until it's in my cd player. too much frustration otherwise.

It totally matters because if your hard copy is damaged and you want to be able to download from iTunes once he gets the rights he'll pull them. And if not that then he'll definately pull them from the music streaming sites which are the best bang for your buck going. | |

Which I think is already the case with the Dirty Mind album since it is no longer on iTunes. | |

I also call bull on prince's claim to have them. If WB fights it, it could be years before Prince gets anything.
The real scary thing is what P said about how now you can use a computer to remaster!?
Huh...NO. The process is an art form. And had evolved even in the last 20 years... that is albums remastered in 1980s may be in need of another go. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |

He must be telling the truth at least somewhat or as I said Dirty Mind would still be on iTunes. I downloaded Uptown from there about a year ago then a month ago I tried to download Gotta broken heart again and it was no where to be found. Only the tracks from The hits were available. | |

I'm in Toronto so I'm not sure if his contract had a seperate international rights stipulation but I'm sure I downloaded songs from the album section from Dirty Mind. | |

I think it's going to hit the fan next year. Record companies aren't going to give up those older gems without a fight. I feel for the Marley family. That employee stance the companies are taking is BS. I bet they didn't give the musicians paid vacation or a 401k when they signed those contracts. | |
