listening to it is the musical equivalent of letting a ferrero rocher chocolate slowly melt in your mouth. lush and a little over the top, slightly moorish. of all the "new" tracks on hits/b-sides this was the jaw-dropper.

Never forgot the brilliance! Good to be reminded.

I love the vocal, the lyrics, the delivery, especially when he says "till you come on back to your little man..."

Shows vulnerability and a sense of humor.

great song. definitely the best of the new tracks on the hits 1 & 2, but i gotta give it up for power fantastic on the b-sides as the best of the bunch.

when i got the cds, i didn't notice pink cashmere at first, as i was busy discovering tracks like controversy and dirty mind (i started buying prince albums in 1987 with sign o and hadn't gone back to the earlier stuff). but once i paid attention to the new songs, it stood out immediately as a fantastic jam.

my wife loves the song, too. aren't i lucky? yep, i am. biggrin

Wasn't it the same story when he met Mayte?? Wasn't she 14 when he first clapped eyes on her and he waited til she was of age? I think that's what the morning papers is about.....

He realised that she was new 2 love
Naive in every way
Every schoolboy's fantasy she was
That's why he had 2 wait.....

Why is age more than a number when it comes 2 love?
Should we ask the ones who speculate
When they don't know what it's made of?
Should we ask the moonlight on your face
Or the raindrops in your hair
Or should we ask the man who wrote it there in the morning papers?

Also from the same album (Love Symbol) which was the one that introduced Mayte, Arrogance, with the lyric: Like a flame she came and I was no longer cold; That's a little shady 4 this lady was only 16 years old (he added on a couple of years there)

I'm going to be the wet blanket here and say I never really loved this song. It's not bad, but to me it seems really uninspired. I never really got the significance of the coat of pink cashmere, even though there apparently was one. Musically it seems very by the numbers.

Performance wise, it's good. Good vocals, good arrangement, nice strings...but it was a bit of an anticlimax for me.

Emancipation89

I think it's sweet and sentimental. Simply beautiful lyrics. So what Prince was 30 and this song was written for an underaged girl. I mean in reality 30 something year old having a crush on a 17 year old girl isn't that uncommon you know?

Anyways lol, I love this track it's one of my all time favorites but to me it's the string instruments that make this song outstanding. Live versions of this one don't do much for me. smile
