I think Prince is just bored/tired/uninspired when it comes to releasing new music these days.I predict that he'll continue to release the occasional single every now and then, and possibly a new album every two years or so...or not.

I just don't think his heart is in it anymore shrug

I kind of agree with this statement. At times, it seems his heart is no longer in it and can you really blame him. The music that's getting attention right now is crap and we all know and so does Prince. I'm sure he wonders how his music will penetrate and perhaps feels it's not worth it???

I also believe (whether you like it or not) that his JW religion has contributed to the lack of creativity over the years. His music and lyrics have been less that exciting lately.

There were no Minajs, Wacka Fuckas, Katy Perrys to the extent there are today. Yes, there has been fluff all along they way but not like now.

Back in the day you did have artists that were regarded as circus acts by the older generations but those artists, i.e. Cindy Lauper, Boy George, had TALENT

But that's not what I'm saying. lol

Of course I know there are acts of every decade considered farcical. I just mean there is way more of it now. Look at hip hop and R&B. WTF?

Sure there was. You'd have Afternoon Delight being played alongside Bowies "Fame" for example. It's always been like this.

lol Yes, I know but if you take a look at top 20 then and top 20 now, it is easy to see the decline. At least in my opinion.

Well see this.

Amazon, just not in the USA.

Don't ask me why.

I am sure they will deliver to the USA.

But isn't that kind of silly? Prince lives in the US and yet, I have to go through a German website and pay euros for his new single?

I like both of those songs! lol "Afternoon Delight" and "Fame" are two good songs...much better than anything that is currently in the Top 40 right now.

This!

I already have an account with Amazon in the US, and, when I see a price I know exactly how much will be deducted from my account without having to "do the math". I would probably buy it from overseas if it was announced that it would not be released here, but, I'm in no hurry to rush in & going to that much trouble only to see it available here a few weeks from now. I can wait.

I agree with vainandy - it's almost as if you're paying for thin air. I don't really trust paying for download anymore because I paid for the extralovable single through iTunes, then when i upgraded my iphone to the new 5 for some reason the song became uncompatible on it. Whether this is apple's marketing ploy to make you buy another copy of the song or something happened when I backed it up, either way I still don't trust paying for downloads.

Plus what happened to the day when we'd buy a cd then obsessively read every bit of writing on the cover or lift out & gazing at the pictures while it played in the background. Prince probably thinks that people don't use "cd players" any more but these days we have full media rooms.

vainandy said:

I don't know why they even call them singles anymore since I haven't seen any singles from any artist in stores since the early 2000s. If singles are strictly one song for download these days, then I'll never buy them because I'm not spending money on something that's simply a download and is not on a physical product. Hell, you can get downloads for free.

I've heard people say that but the very first thing I do when I download a song from my laptop (which has internet), is I burn it onto a CD and then rip it into my desktop computer (which doesn't have internet and never has had internet....no internet ever on it means no viruses ever).

But I've never paid for a download though. I just see it as pointless because why would I want to pay for something that is going to be placed onto a homemade CD that I can make myself? But then again, back in the day, I always bought vinyl and never pre-recorded cassettes because I found it pointless to buy something on a format that I could record myself and have both the vinyl and a cassette for the same price. lol The only time I bought pre-recorded cassettes was during the early 1990s when vinyl was practically almost extinct and CDs and CD players were still too expensive. But to pay for a download? Never. Like you said, it's like paying for air. Hell, I've never paid for bottled water either because I see it pointless when you can get it for free out of the faucet and it tastes exactly the same. lol

When I speak to people below 25 I hear them mention that it is a singles market (I reckon they mean for songs). The snack more instead of listening to a whole album. (and yes there a still who enjoy albums)

it's only a singles market if the songs are good and promoted well, otherwise it's just pissing into the wind. RnrLA could possibly make a small dent in the market as he seems to be promoting it better than previous singles and it's actually quite a good song. time will tell.

I agree with what you've said and glad to hear the song is getting some decent radio air play across several countries. A first for a while. However, the biggest mistake is selling it as CD or vinyl only. I want to buy but can only find it on Amazon for about £8.50. I can understand this approach for an album but when digital downloads amount for most single sales its a huge opportunity missed not to offer the song in this format.

The song played on the radio before Purple Music announced releasing it right? I seem to remember this

I suspect the truth of the matter is they offered prince a cash sum up front for a single + video. No confusion, that's just how he likes to work.

Chances are any of us could do it too.

the last songs I really dug by Prince, that felt Prince was "Black Sweat" WHICH has a sample of an Andre Cymone song. I will just say Prince get our old team back.
