Why were Prince's contributions on "Like A Prayer" uncredited???

The thread title pretty much says it all: why is it that, save Love Song, the other P contributions to the album (and lead single) were uncredited?

Same reason he used pseudonyms and didnt take credit for The Time alums etc.

Besides LS and some of LAP, what else did he do on the album?

Oh yeah.

It also sounds like a lot of his stuff on the 12 inch mixes of Like A Prayer imo.

as to why they were largely uncredited: shrug

i am betting madonna didnt want to share credit, and he was often weird about crediting in the 80s. hence the slew of pen names

Yeah I know about the 1 inch of LAP but the cd remixed versions of LAP I have has Express Yourself remixes. Is KIT on the 12 inch 'vinyl'?

KIT 12" and cd single doesn't have EY on it

wiki has prince mentioned as playing bass, i understood it was guitar, but not the main guitar, and he is only on the 12" version(s) not the album version. you would need to compare all the versions to find out what music is on the 12" versions thats not on the album version

But overall it seems like Prince is all over the remixes but not the actual regular album.

However for some reason in this era Ive always felt it was Prince influenced for some reason. Maybe because of the 12 inches and reading that RS interview back then.

The guitar riff which opens the album is Prince. As well, the guitar in "Act of Contrition" is all him.

He's audible on the "Keep It Together" 12 inch Extended mix and the "Like A Prayer" Bill Bottrell Dub Beats mix (which is amazing for the "Skinny motherfucker w/ the high voice" sample).

I always thought that and I defended the idea hardly but everyone including some old Quakers and people at Princevault said it is not the case. It was like me against the world and I finally decided to admit that I was probably wrong. Do you have a source or is it, like me, just your ears telling you so?

Princevault also disagrees on the KIT remix. Can you be more specific? I had listened to all of them a few years back, just to check, and I didn't find Prince anywhere but I may have missed him eek

As for the original question yeah it's basically "who decided to hide the credits, P or M?".

Probably Prince, I dont understand his issues with hiding his contributions

did this album come out same time Graffiti Bridge and the Nude tour were going?

I'm pretty sure it came out spring/summer 89.I bought it at the time for the prince song but 'love song' i feel was a bit of a let down and this duet was proably 3 or 4 years too late. The cd booklet smelt of incense .
