If I can buy a download, then I will buy the original mix and the radio mix. Otherwise, I will download them without paying him. I will certainly not pay some outrageous price for an import CD with 2 tracks that I kinda sorta like (but I'm far from crazy about) and a couple god-awful remixes.

He's shooting himself in the foot the way he's releasing this, if in fact it will not be on itunes or bandcamp or something like that for paid download. Shoot, I even happily bought the updated version of Extralovable from itunes, even though I have listened to it a total of 3 times (and all 3 were on the day I bought it). Of course, the extended mix of Extralovable that came out for free online a couple months ago (was it on Andy's facebook page? I can't remember)...THAT I listen to frequently because it reminds me of everything Prince used to be about: unpredictable, quirky, fun.

Having said that, any song that he releases (that is not a club remix by some awful producer) and allows people to download for a reasonable price (i.e. $1 per track) I will buy, whether I like it or not, because it's Prince. Shoot, I would have bought "Purple and Gold" and "Rich Friends" had they been available for download, just to have them .. and because it's only a dollar, so it doesn't seem insane. I certainly would not have bought either of them on CD from Germany, just like I would have passed on Extralovable.

er

The song is OK, but nothing special & I don't giva a damn about remixes. Never have. And I stopped collecting for collecting's sake years ago. Guess that answers your question.
If Prince does read all of this, he must (or should) get a little worried. Even his diehard fans are indifferent about his new single. Imagine this question being asked in 1987... Maybe recording rehab wasn't such a bad place to be after all...

on iTunes or the equivalent? yes. if it's released.

I really don't have the energy to put into tracking down a physical format and paying to import it into the US for something that's just going to end up ripped to iTunes and stored on a shelf, never to be played again. if it comes to that, it'll be an illegal download. sorry, Prince. my money's here for you to have, but neither one of us (you nor me) are THAT into this any more for you to be going out of your way to make it difficult to sell me things and for me to go out of my way to give you my money for those things.

i agree with this nod

Likewise.

I don't buy anything of his, aside from concert tickets should the opportunity arise. He's done so much to fuck up his fans and his business model with petty YouTube and fansite lawsuits, incompetent website management, poor customer service and dumb nonsense like that to the point where I can't even be bothered to support his commercial endeavors in good faith simply because it's not worth the effort. Plus, I figure he's rich enough.

For all his happy horseshit about controlling the internet, using it as distribution model, pioneering it and then declaring it dead (once he could no longer control it), he's really made a mockery of the entire thing, primarily with the way he's handled his own websites. He charges outragous sums of money, provides next to nothing in return, fucks the whole thing up every which way form sunday and then declares it "dead" simply because he can't be bothered to provide fans with content they'd willingly pay for but find it easier to obtain somewhere else. Dude can't even manage to deliver T-shirts for crying out loud.

It's really a shame. If he just started a website, put up live shows, outtakes, vault material, streams, an occasional free song or remix, etc. and charged fans on a PPV basis for the content, he could not only control his material and his legacy, but also make the money from it - which seems like the only thing he cares about these days anyway.

Absolutely. I just wonder why he doesn´t see this. I mean, he´s not dumb, in some interviews he comes across as a smart person. Why does he sabotage his reputation so much? I guess we´ll never know.

Yes. Ordered all 3 versions. CD, Picture Disc, and Vinyl. For those unsure where to order it here is a link. Also a BIG WARNING, DO NOT CONVERT THE CURRENCY. Leave it as is or will screw up the order total. http://www.purplemusic.ch/

I would--if he wanted to sell it to me. Available in the U.S.--sure I'd buy it, physical format preferred.

I'd pay for a download if not.

But I'm not paying to ship the fool thing from overseas. I didn't get ship a newspaper over to get 20Ten either, making it the only "Prince" credited album release I don't have a physical copy of.

And it makes no sense for Prince or anyone else to expect people to do it, no matter how much we might like his music in general, or even if we like this track. It'll just be so easy to get it some other way, and when he could so easily make it available for us to buy, it's just stupid for him not to do so. If he wanted to drop an album a week, I'd be more than willing to pay for that--if he made it available where I am.

I don't have to buy it, I already have it. Free the music.

But I don't buy any physical format music any longer. If Prince releases a good new album and sells it on his website, then I would probably throw him some coin and buy it.
