Listening to "How Does it Feel" by D'Angelo, big Prince influence, but cant name the exact song. Then Prince puts out "Call My Name" which sounds just like "How Does it Feel"!

I've always felt that D'angelo's Vooddo album was a BIG influence on the rainbow children.

i think prince has 2 steal nothing back cuz prince is prince but these cats be copying him hard and admit 2 it so when prince do a song i think its just him being himself we never know what direction prince next record is gonna be in he is all across the board but dangelo is a prince wanna b 2 the heart even when and got jesse the cloest thing 2 prince 2 be in his band

I agree that U Make My Sun Shine sounds very much like Untitled (How Does It Feel). Now even though I love Prince's music with all my heart, I have to give Untitled higher ground here, though. U Make My Sun Shine is more produced and for me, not as entertaining to listen to. D'Angelo's Untitled has a particularly raw, special sound that a lot of songs can't achieve properly. Sorry, Prince.

My wife loved D'Angelo's "How does it feel?" Then, I showed her the video to "Scandalous".

"Wow. D'Angelo's biggest hit is a rip off," she said.

Voodoo was made while D'Angelo & Questlove had all night long sessions listening to Prince - Parade for example.

I doubt Prince was ever influenced by D'Angelo and I think it is merely a coincidence Angie Stone duetted with Prince on U Make My Sun Shine

I don't really hear the influence on TRC that much, except for it being influeced by a wide variety of "black" music styles. I can hear the influence of the "neo-soul" production styles of the era on the NPGMC material though. It didn't really work for Prince, to be honest.

D'Angelo openly acknowledged that the song was influenced by Prince and even meant it as a musical homage to him, I see no problem whatsoever with that. Neither do I think "Call My Name" is any type of an "answer" to D'Angelo by Prince.

People accuse someone of "ripping off" or "stealing" something really easily these days. Even if it's just an idea, approach or a general mood. How can you really steal someone's mood?
