Rave CD- Should 'So far,so pleased' been the lead single?

whilst this track is not exactly my cup of tea, having Gwen Steffani [who was super hot property at the time] in a kick ass video surely would have been a great lead song. The track is super radio / MTV friendy, catchy, great hook & melody. What a shame it never happened as I think this would have promoted the CD so much better. Anyone agree.

You may have a point.

Instead we got that Greatest Romance sludge.

It would have been a great single. But, Interscope wouldn't let Gwen make a video with him for it.

No Doubt was in the process of releasing Return of Saturn and they didn't want to mess up their promotional push- since the song was not on No Doubt's album.

Didn't the record companies block any single releases featuring no doubt and Prince.

Don't know about the legalities, but it could've been huge.

Sounds like it was planned to be released as a single at some stage by the sound of some of these posts?. Personally i'd probably pick Baby Knows, Everyday's a Winding Road, Man o' War or Wherever You Go, Whatever You Do ahead of it. Decent song though.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Record label politics prevented it from becoming another hit for Prince. But Rave still went gold....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

It's an obvious choice, but much like RNR Love Affair, Fury, Cinnamon Girl and similar it's got no bite to it.

Prince was jibbering about it as the next single on L4OA.com at the time (or NPGMC whatever), he was throwing his dummy out of the pram about Arista not paying for the promo or something so we never got it.

The single got halted by the record company, cuz it wanted to push the new No Doubt single instead.

It's no 'U Got The Look' but it's agreeably catchy and Gwen's star power is greater than that of Sheena Easton. It would have charted, maybe even top ten with a good video and enough promotion. A lost opportunity indeed - this could have kickstarted the alleged 'comeback' that didn't happen until Musicology, and ensured that Rave wasn't quite the commercial lame duck it turned out to be.

It's a decent track and probably would've been a hit. I was NOT a fan of the album when it came out tho. Besides this and a handful of tracks most seemed to contrived imo. However, it definitely has grown on me as a whole over the years. That title track has become one of my all time fave tracks from anyone. Everyday is a Winding Road is still cringe-worthy

i remember there being a comment (maybe on the love4oneanother website?) that implied Gwen was disappointed that her vocals were buried in the mix and didn't want to a video because she wasn't happy with that fact.

as far as it being the lead single...maybe it would've been a bigger hit than TGRES but i don't know how much bigger. i don't think there's been any song on an album since Gold (maybe Emancipation) that could've been a radio hit. not that there werent any that deserved to be hits, it's just that radio and Prince went their seperate ways a long time ago. the reasons why could be debated i suppose.

If they had a video of the song directed and created by a professional team and not Paisley Park INC I bet it would have been top 20 just on the strength of Gwens then superstar presence imo.

In the video Gwen could've appeared as a faint whisp, faded out in the background, you know like her vocals in the mix.

It definitely should have been the first single. It's a shame that record company politics prevented this from happening.

Should 'So far,so pleased' been the lead single?'

Hell no, I hate that song..

So far So Pleased: is one of the bad songs I don't like on Rave.

Rave Un2 -- the title song, So Far So Pleased and Baby Knows are all bad songs, imo.

TGRES is very good and was pretty good as a single!

(too bad about the video which was released several months after the single was released, this did not help on the charts),

but I love this ballad as a leading single: The greatest romance..

-- especially the long Rave In2 8 minutes remix.. heart

lol So true! Even the No Doubt song "Waiting Room" (written by Prince) her voice sounds so weak compared to Prince, and his is the background vocal it's not even a duet!

They could have taken about 24 seconds to go to the board and remove Gwen's vocals. It would only take 24 seconds since you can barely hear them to begin with. It was the only song on the album with a chance to be a hit. As far as singles go, Prince blew it again. Him and Warners had a poor track record of single releases, and blame both of them for too many albums released.

Aw c'm'on, Fury is no Witness 4 The Prosecution, but is certainly not dull. The lyrics are unusually biographic, the interpretation and guitar is passionate and while the studio version sounds ok, the live SNL version is a classic.

I refuse to shelve this pop gem next to RnR Flop Affair.
