Queen's Hot Space X Prince's homonymous album Its considerably known the fact that MJ was hanging out with Queen just before starting to record Thriller, that there's a version of State of Shock with Mercury, that their 1982 dance album Hot Space was declared as an influence by MJ in the making of Thriller, and that Mercury ALMOST got to be a part of Thriller itself (there's an interview of Freddie saying that on utube).
I'm a fan of both MJ and Queen. In Hot Space I think they tried to continue on the path of Another One Bites the Dust, their 1980 Chic-styled success. Hot Space is a good album, but it seems never to take off, there's really not a song as good as ABTD, although they're all dancey-disco-rnb. Back Chat, Body Language, Staying Power and Cool Cat were all very good, but could not stand beside their true classic songs.
Still, in the end of the album, and not truly related to the rest of the songs, there's of course the unique classic Under Pressure, one of my favourites, where the creative geniuses of Queen and David Bowie collide. Wonder what a Queen/MJ collab could have turned out.
Interestingly, I think that, while Thriller got to sound a lot different than Hot Space (needless to describe, everyone knows Thriller), Hot Space has A LOT of similarities with Prince's 1979 album. They're both mainly disco oriented, with big dance songs - Staying Power, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad - , have their rnb ballads (with a dancey rythm though) - Cool Cat, When We're Dancing Close and Slow -, and considerable space for guitar solos virtuosity - Back Chat, Bambi -.

Well, Im talking about a Prince album in relation to other artist's music. Must it be only about Prince alone here? I thought it was better to leave to the other forum topics that DONT mention Prince. -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

I think your thread is good,it's just your concept is bad. I Don't agree that Hot Space is a disco album,it's much more rooted in Funk Rock.too bad version of Bowie on Cool Cat isn't released officialy. freddies falsetto on Cool Cat resembles Prince.Prince had a period during Parade tour when he would spend the night after concert watching Queen's videos.Freddie liked Prince but who doesn't like Prince.i mean they are royalities ,afterall:)

Not sure about the actual topic here but just wanted to say Hot Space is one of my fave Queen albums. I know most won't agree but I don't care. I love it. I think I'll listen to the remaster (much needed) tonight. Thank you and have a good day. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Maybe, but then again Chic may also be considered funk. Yet they were also disco. It's a genre blending in these cases.
Is there a version of Cool Cat with DB? WOW didn't know that!
Do you know if anything what Prince said about Freddie and vice versa?
Thanks, I didnt know about that! -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

Yes, I was not sure too, but I thought it would make more sense if people wanted to compare P`s music with other artists` to post it here. Since, if someone wanted to do the same and look for a Prince vs anything post on the "other artist's" forum it would be more confusing to find anything between so many randon artists. And again, if P's music can't be paralleled with other music and subjects, this forum would be too limited for its own purpous: the discussion of Prince's music. -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

ho·mon·y·mous (h-mn-ms, h-) adj.
1. Having the same name.
2. Of the nature of a homonym; homonymic.
[From Latin homnymus, from Greek homnumos : homo-, homo- + onuma, name; see n-men- in Indo-European roots.]

technically it is two things that have the same name. It's the name of a person and it's the name of an album. But one is named after the other, which is what eponymous means.

Another One Bites the Dust was lifted from Chic, Nile's been complimentary about it even though he prob. went WTF at the time.
Queen played St Paul in 1976 and 1980. It's possible Prince could've caught The Game tour because it happened in September.
I think Hot Space was the last tour Queen did in America.

I understand what you're saying. It's a question of the words' use in different languages. In Portuguese we use the word "homônimo", its the more usual, to describe a work that has the same name as its authour. "Epônimo" is more used in a sense of a city that is named after its founder, a disease that is named afters its heal discoverer etc. [Edited 11/12/12 9:57am] -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

Hot Space, is a great album from Queen.
Not their best obviously but still a very great album..
And I like the 1979 Prince album a lot too.
Strange to compare this Queen album to Prince, cuz the albums are very different, they do not have much in common. Prince 4Ever.
