These songs were hits for others but not for Prince I Feel For U,When U Were Mine ,Nothing Compares, to U,Private Joy are some of the songs that hit the top of the charts in a versions of artists like Chaka and Cindy Lauper but public slept on those jams when Prince released them.Why? Was it because of the marketing? Production? Was a big classy arrangment need to make Nothing Compares T U big? | |

for whom was Private Joy a hit? I didn't know someone had covered it. but as far as Prince fans in Detroit, Private Joy WAS a hit on the radio here!! | |

[An artist name] Cheyne redid Private Joy for the Weird Science soundtrack back in the day. I'm sure it's on youtube somewhere.

None of those songs were marketed as singles when Prince did them except for Nothing Compares 2 U. People that bought the albums knew them but the general radio listener probably didn't. When  go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all  up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! | |

that "ish" didn't CHART though. (none of them did) i watched America's Top 10 in the 80s and I remember the Weird Science flick, i'da noticed if somebody charted with PJ, one of my faves from Controversy! | |

Yes it was and was my Aunt's favorite Prince song because she heard it on the radio here in Metro Detroit area. As for the other songs I don't believe Prince released those songs as singles. Nothing Compares 2 U was only a single for Prince after Sinead had already had a hit with it. It was not a single for The Family.
Lauper's cover of When U Were Mine was also not a "hit". I don't think it was even a single, IIRC.
