Do any of you still make Prince compilations?

Dear .Org,

I haven't made a Prince compilation for at least 10 years, but just hastily threw one together a minute ago. Do any of you still make compilations? And if so, what are some of your latest compilations (or even any old compilation favourites)?

Here's my latest - there is no rhyme or reason except that I just wanted a seriously HOT "new" Prince album, all extended versions, with a few unusual surprises; ultimately, I wanted a strong heartbeat and flow to the album, mixing some classic old school 80s jams (but not necessarily the most popular choices, although some of my favourites are indeed very popular), as well as a choice selection of long sought after bootlegs. Enjoy!

All the time. Especially since I discovered how to stream/record stuff I've never heard before for free. I'd buy it from Prince myself but he won't sell it to me.

I'll occasionally make one fit a certain mood or theme. For example, here's one for laid back yet funky jazz feeling:

1. Power Fantastic
2. When the Lights Go Down
3. So Dark
4. 2morrow
5. She Spoke 2 Me
6. U're Gonna C Me (ONA piano version)
7. Dreamin About U
8. My Computer
9. Condition of the Heart

controversy99,

An exquisite selection; I love the intro of PF into When The Lights Go Down ...

I personally would be horrified to then find So Dark and 2morrow on this, as the production and instrumental aesthetics don't vibe with me, especially given the superlative organic nature of your first two choices. That said, they do work nicely with each other. Thankfully, you regain composure with a lovely choice thereafter, She Spoke 2 Me.

I love the rest of your selections, but would perhaps question the sound of the ending of My Computer as it flows into Condition of The Heart. Perhaps, the point is that it is almost impossible to mix his 80s and his 90s work successfully.

Love Like Jazz might be a nice new addition, as well as Somewhere Here On Earth, Muse 2 The Pharoah and Dear Mr Man?

love,

Spirit

thanks, glad you like it. i haven't listend to this mix for awhile, so i don't remember if the production differences impacted my enjoyment. you might be right.

love like jazz and dear mr. man are great additions. muse 2 the pharoah is a bit too jarring for me on this mix, when it transitions into the rap/spoken word section. somewhere here on earth, now that's an interesting idea since some people compare it to power fantastic. personally, pf is waaay better, but having them both on the same mix would be nice.

Nope. Never did, never will. What's the point? We already have the albums. If you want to hear a certain track, just put on the album!

Omey

I used to make them. Now I just listen to the albums that I am most in the mood for. Every album seems to have a certain feel or theme to it for me so I think Prince made the perfect compilations that way. Although I must say that "The Hits/B-Sides" is still by far the best compilation ever made, those are 3 discs that I still do listen to often!!

Working on a 12-disc compilation called "DANCE MUSIC SEX ROMANCE" comprising the 1978-1992 years with Warner Bros.

Aside from Prince's own hits, 12" versions, and key album cuts, I am also including hits and 12" of associated artists.

Based on the sequencing and song selections it is pretty stellar.

Kind of approached as an anthology of sorts for those Warner Bros. years....

I've only ever made 2. lol One back in 1990 of select B-sides and a couple of "Batman" tracks, and one in 1995 of the select slow jams/ music to hump to.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
