I just read an article on Prince's Jimmy Kimmel performance, and the article hints that a new album could be on it's way soon:

'Rock 'n' Roll Love Affair' has been taken from Prince's as-yet-unannounced new album, which is expected to be confirmed in the near future.

I'd say it's guessing on there part as it's a good bet that it's true.

As always with Prince....time will tell.

I am holding on to my last shred of Prince-hood.

Ive been really disappointed in the last few years.

And Im beginning to feel like its a friendship that we have both outgrown.

Im sincerely hoping that he waits until he has some powerful stuff to put out.

The last few have just been half decent and half garbage.

There are some gems here and there, but so much to weed thru.

And also, Id prefer something short and strong.

I dont need Prince to prove that he can write tons of songs and put out a double album.

Just give us 9 great songs that hang together well and it is MORE than enough.

Also hoping he doesnt feel the need to fill it with the formula:

a title track that talks about partying and his musicianship + the bland do me baby/scandalous/adore wanna-be's + a preachy number + a few that borrow the 80's synths but then mangle and distort them.

I know, Im one of those complainers who shoud just leave already!

And I know he is 54 and he isnt 25 singing about head...

But I cant seem to give up all hope !

Give it up already. He's an old man now and needs resting.Few more years and he'll be doing Live DJ shows: He'll be spinning those old records that he does cover songs from, and shouting in the mic " I have too many hits, I can decide", and then have his band playing his songs. This is Prince's future, but you know we all age, so there is no harm.

if he's got an album (almost) ready to go it will either be released mid december

a few weeks after rnr affair, or more likely it will be march/april 2013.

he'll probably do some more gigs with andy in support of superconductor i guess

which would take up most of late november/december anyway.

plus, even if he's got an album ready, we know from the past decade or so that

he's gonna shop it around in various places to feel the water (see who's got an

interest in releasing it and how much money he'll get up front).

if he'd had a deal with a record company for another one off release we'd have

heard about it by now, there'd be a press release and most likely rnr affair would

have been released on that label instead of the purple music label.

unless they'll release the album as well. you never know with prince i guess.

still, my guess is spring 2013.

Yes, spring/summer next year. My guess is summer. He's been touring and not ready for an album release yet. I am waiting in anticipation, and hope that rnr affair is not indication of what is to come, if so, I will pass on this one.

I'm sure RNR is connected to some project he has in his mind or cooking on the backburner, there always is one right - but this is just the writer of the piece following the logic of new single -> album.

You don't get much more vague than that.

Every time Prince takes a break, he comes back with a strong album. No new album in 2011, no new album in 2012.....this is unprecedented.

So if Prince decides to drop an album in 2013.... it is gonna be killer!!!

I hear ya...you pretty much summed up my feelings as well. My interest is slllowwwwllly dying. Part of it definitely is my age...but most of it has to do with he doesn't seem to be into it anymore. No passion...no creativity...he's totally on auto pilot...And that is totally fine as the amount of amazing stuff he has given us over the years he is entitled to coast. I will always love his 80s stuff...dig most of the 90s...and hit or miss stuff from 2000s...but lately I am starting to loose all interest in any new stuff. the last few songs and 20ten are Psuedo-Prince.
