Ultimate Prince Songbook Hi Folks,
Does anyone have the Ultimate Prince Songbook (sheetmusic)? If so, is there anything in it that's not already available elsewhere, namely, are the versions the 12" versions or just rehashed transcriptions from the various collections previously published.
This is the book I'm talking about.

i don't have it but I looked at in Colony Music before it closed (!) in New York and it looked like the same versions
THese piano books are usually not very clsoe to the record.
In the 80's I had seen Purple Rain "off the record" which was an actual transcription of the album but have not been able to find it again. |

If you search the electric Internet for purple rain Japan band score you'll find the same book. There's three on eBay now but I'm on my phone and having trouble with links. It ain't cheap though. I'm sure if you added PDF to the search you'd find a scan of it, really sure. may display symptoms of sarcasm |

I looked at the book in a Guitar Center - I thought it was greatly over simplified and decided to pass on it. Perhaps it's good to understand the basics of a song - but to me not worth the purchase - better versions on some tab sites out there.... |

Thanks for the info. I'm a bit of a sheet music hoarder so I'll probably end up buying it anyway.
While we're on the subject, there is also this book
Prince Best - Japan Band Score
It is full transcritions of:
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad
1999
Little Red Corvette
Let's Go Crazy
Purple Rain
Rasberry Beret
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
Pretty decent transcriptions as far as I can tell, better than the Purple Rain - Off The Record book which has guitars all stripped down to one. I've never seen a scan of it doing the rounds so it's paper only as far as I know. may display symptoms of sarcasm |

interesting. so these are differen transcriptions of purple rain and LGC?
I looked at the pic for LRC and it looks like it's in a different key. Isn't LRC in C (or F)?

The Prince Best has different transcriptions to what's in the Purple Rain-Off The Record book. I don't have the books in front of me right now but I recall LRC being in G.
If you're after decent guitar only transcriptions, there's a Guitar Tab book of The Very Best Of Prince compilation. They're pretty accurate, but based on the versions on the album, so the single edit of When Doves Cry which fades at the guitar solo so most of it isn't in the song. But what's there seems like the most accurate and detailed published transcriptions. may display symptoms of sarcasm |
