Go vs Empty Room

Two Susannah inspired songs, both never released in studio form.Which do you prefer?

my vote goes to Go. For it's one of his very best songs and how it never found room on any album is beyond me.

its up there isn't it? it's so atmospheric and lonely feeling. his singing totally conveys the theme of the song.

"found a strand, of your hair, by the bathroom window", one of his most simple yet beautiful lyrics.

I agree, except Empty Room was released C-Note.

I don't understand the comparision though, there ain't no comparing Empty Room and Go. Nonsense.

RIP sad

i'm concerned with the studio version, i'm not overly keen on the c-note version by comparison.

i'd go with go personally. not quite as repetitive as empty room (which is a fine tune unto itself as well cool). i like the version from the video or whatever and the live one from the "rock" show at the conga room a while back in l.a. with sonny t. and michael b. the guitar part is sick guitar. go is my shit though music. "why you wanna take your love...and give it to another man..." whistle lol

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Empty Room from 94. Searing solo at the end, blows away the other versions imo.

outside of them being 2 Susannah inspired songs, why the comparison

Splash vs Go have similar feels

Empty Room vs _____

I would love to hear the 1985 rehearsal of Go in France, heard Tempation live and I dont understand why it was never performed again, they rocked it live

The different versions of these songs vary so much that it's hard to compare.

My favorite version of Go beats my favorite version of Empty Room. That favorite version of Go is a rehearsal with a very poor sound quality. The vocal on that is just awesome, you just feel the emotion and pain. And the music has a great undulating sound.

My least favorite version of Go falls below my least favorite version of Empty Room. That version of Go is what appears to be the most finished studio version. It's kind of mechanical and boring.

All versions of Empty Room that I've heard vary from decent to quite good.

Splash is a better version of the sound of Go.

but completely opposite in lyrical meaning.

But I think Empty Room is more to my liking.

The songs have a lot in common, both heard break songs from the same heart breaker, both originally from 1985, both unreleased and both great songs. I think the op makes it clear why the comparison is made.

Anyhow for me Go is the more interesting composition. I prefer Go.

I love the almost laid back, reggaeish feel of Go, but Empty room is superb, the vocals and the whole performance. I mean this song is high emotion. So it wins here. Still take up all these Susannah inspired songs and you have his strongest and most heartfelt work. He covers her with every emotion and desire, from lust to anger.

I really think Big Tall Wall is in this league too (I know thats definitely about Susannah) and when he moved her into the converted Silo apartments to keep an eye on her. The lyrics say everything.

"I'm gonna build a big tall wall, stone circle so you can't get out, True lovin is what its all about" Lovin my ass, thats called control.

1.) heart break songs from the same heart breaker

2.) originally from 1985

3.) unreleased

4.) great songs

I would definitely buy that, it would Prince's best album ever. He was really crazily obsessed about Susannah. She must have blown his mind and his brains.

I love both of these songs. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ever felt that way. It hurts when the one you love does not reciprocate. I saw someone tonight I hadn't seen for some time, and instantly was filled with a tornado of emotion. It's been years and still the emotion is bare. I only wish they felt the same about me, but it's not to be. Prince is lucky he can write a beautiful song and at least have that to show for the heartbreak. Do you suppose a song ever succeeded at convincing a lost lover to come back?
