Still Would Stand All Time OK, so I've heard this song for over 20 years now and until recently I never knew what was meant by the title. I never got the "syntax" of "Still Would Stand All Time" till I listened to the 1988 Hamburg aftershow, in which Prince says, "it means All time would stand still. See, you gotta change it around like that..." I've had the aftershow for along time too but never listened closely enough.
He speaking like Yoda: "Still...would stand all time." Who else never knew that? Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Oh, thank you! I thought that line meant (it - whatever "it" is, maybe "love") still would stand all time. Dropping an understood subject. That's common in English, as in "got time for a beer after work?" "don't think so." But then, I don't pay close attention to the lyrics. I didn't know "Anna stesia" was referring to anesthesia until an org'er posted about it. :-) I do tend to pay closer attention if the lyrics/songs are sexual, though. I like those. | |
