Act I Tour Memories I started a post about the Lovesexy tour, now it's time for Act I. To my knowledge, there wasn't a tour in between. I'd just turned 18, and was unaware that Prince was about to change his name. The symbol on the cover was talked about with me and my friends about what it symbolized. The music was pretty good, even with the Tony M. Raps. I was becoming privy to the "extra" music out there, ala "The Black Album". I was absorbing the videos, and enjoying my taped off TV Prince specials from ABC. The tour was in full swing. He did a show or two in VA, but I didn't have a car yet so I thought I was going to miss him this time around. Turns out, I wasn't the only one bummed about him not being closer to DC. People cited their grievances and WPGC 95, an R&B station there, got Prince to do a show at The Warner Theatre, right in the heart of DC. Tickets went on sale the day after I'd heard about it. I was supposed to go with a lady friend and she bailed out. Those tickets totaled $150, and in 1993 that was a lot of one of my paychecks, but I didn't care much. I sold one to somebody outside the venue the night of the show at face value so I made half my money back. While I was outside waiting for the place to let us in I began talking to two girls who were there. We got to talking about where we were sitting and when I mentioned I had balcony tickets in the back they told me they had an extra ticket in the orchestra pit, 8 rows from the stage. 8 rows from the stage! I got it from them and we all sat so damn close to the stage. Mayte and two body guards, as part of the show, sat two rows behind us. That was awesome! The show started, The man himself coming out with the had with the chains cross the face, opening with My Name Is Prince. Tony, Kirky J, and damon(?) came out during the show and took Mayte, dressed from head to toe in black, her face covered, up onto the stage. I had an isle seat so I was close! Those girls and I had an awesome time. We all went out during intermission and loaded up on T shirts and tour guides before returning to our seats for the rest of the show. I made some friends that night. That was the biggest highlight of the night, even with the awesome Prince spectacle.

Wow...I went to the show at the Patriot center and wanted to go to the Warner Theater show. I did get into the after party at the 9:30 Club (on F Street).
In 2001 when Prince came through DC I totally flaked and did not get tickets and at the time I lived on 13th street (same street as the Warner Theater)...I could have walked.

I had to miss that show. We had already planned to be out of town that week. I was super pissed. I really wanted to see the ONA show.

Prince didn't tour the US between Lovesexy and Act I, but I was fortunate enough to catch 2 Diamonds and Pearls shows. One at Glam Slam and one at Paisley Park in Jan 92.
For the Act I tour, I saw the warm up show at Glam Slam Mpls on Feb 18th. It was the first time he did She's Always In My Hair and Peach live. The show wasn't even officially announced and I heard by word of mouth the day of. It was only $10 to get in. I would kill to get my hands on the videos for the Glam Slam shows. The show was guitar heavy, compared to Nude and D&P tours.
The official tour didn't come to Mpls...I know, right??? I ended up driving to Chicago to see it. I had moved to Mpls in Oct 91 from Illinois. My friend and I had tickets to the first 2 shows, Apr 4th and 5th. The crowds were amazing, on their feet the whole time. The setlist was great, with nearly all the new songs being played.
On the 2nd night, as we were driving to the Chicago Theater, a radio station we were listening to announced there would be an aftershow. The official concert started at 8:00pm and they wouldn't announce the venue for the aftershow until then. So we missed My Name Is Prince the 2nd night, but I had seen it already so it was worth it to miss it. I had no idea where the Cabaret Metro was, but someone told us it was in the neighborhood of Wrigley Field. After the main show was over, we rushed there and there was already a long line. We were still able to get in. I think it was $25 or $30 to get in.
The aftershow was awesome, except for MJW getting on stage and trying to rap on a song. Prince did Papa for the first time, and had a stage hand bring out his purple notebook with the lyrics. I couldn't believe I was seeing Prince 3 times in less than 36 hours. Epic!
I was glad we got the Act I show, verses the Act II one, since a lot of the new songs were dropped on Act II. I also caught the warm up shows for Act II at Paisley Park Jun/Jul 93, 5 shows.

The Act II shows were brilliant. The best thing was the absence of Tony M. and the "Game Boyz" (except for the last london show and aftershow).

Malcom Jamal Warner (Cosby Show)
The D&P shows were Jan 92. He did premiere Sexy MF and a portion of My Name Is Prince during the Glam Slam show. Later that same night, at Paisley Park, the dj played Sexy MF, My Name Is Prince, and the Continental on cd. They also did an impromptu jam, the infamous one with Terence Trent D'Arby. That was my first private party at Paisley Park. Prince was wearing the same black outfit from the D&P video, the sleeveless one with the back cut out. I could have died. The Act I warm up and tour were early 93.
I moved here like 3 weeks before the major snow storm, AND worked outside at the airport! [Edited 10/22/12 11:20am] TRUE BLUE

I saw this in April 1993 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.I remember it being a very good show....maybe not as mindblowing as the Lovesexy tour, but still exciting to see.

My sister and I were in the row directly behind you. I hope that we didn't scream too much in your ears. Do u remember when Prince stopped the music during the shows because the audience wasn't in2 it? Man, nothing like being the MAN. I loved Blue Light with Mayte on the piano and her beautiful smile reading that book. But, looking back at Act I - well, let's reverse that and look forward to more shows with Prince in the lead. ~honey is b-ing 1 with the 1~
