Level of Creative Genius & Weirdness - Prince or Tori Amos

Prince will always have a special place in my heart when come to being a highly creative artist that just happens to be downright weird!I have been listening to Tori Amos lately for a few months now. I absolutely love her music! Wonder if they ever collaborated on anything? She is such a 24k fruit loop, lol!

They are different from one another but she is very talented. Check out her book if you can!

Whilst their music is two worlds apart and couldn't be anymore different, I've often thought of Tori as Prince's female equivalent. Both insanely prolific artists who quickly move on from one project to the next, both gifted songwriters with obsessive fanbases and both extremely weird characters.

Tori has covered Prince's Purple Rain.

So Prince wins. wink

Actually, I used to love Tori bak in the days, but she became too repeatative for my liking. She needs to cheer up. biggrin

prince put up her video for one of her newer songs on his website, i think it might have

been the 3121 website, or the one just before that. they would promote music that he(?)

thought we should hear, i guess. and tori's new single at the time was one of them.

i think the song was "sleeps with butterflies".

tori also used to release b-sides that were just as good, if not often better, than some

of her album tracks. and there's huge, huge amounts of them. she stopped doing them

so much after Choirgirl, but up to that point, every album had like 8 bsides.

and much like prince, her music became safer, less out there and more formulaic over

the years. she's still trying new things and it's hit and miss for me. some stuff is still

very good and other things are just meh. both of them used to release albums that i'd

enjoy from start to finish and count amongst my favorit records ever. and both have

lost that art a bit imo. still great songs, but a great album only few and far between.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think they are very much alike. I was obsessed with Tori in the 90's and some of the albums she put out then are among my all time favorites, just as alot of Prince's are. They both have a direction and move in it- doing their own thing- not paying any attetnion to what's "in" at the time.

Seen Tori on Newsnight Review a few days ago, she looks incredibly like Karen Gillan nowadays.
