Year by year: Prince albums Vs. MJ albums contest

OK, so this is just for fun biggrin

(when 2 or more Prince album for a year I take what is generally considered as being the "main" album for that year)

1979: Off The Wall Vs. Prince.

1982: Thriller Vs. 1999.

1987: Bad Vs. Sign "O" The Times.

1991: Dangerous Vs. Diamonds And Pearls.

1995: History Vs. The Gold Experience.

2001: Invicible Vs. The Rainbow Children.

Copy and paste and put your winner (favorite) in bold. You can explain your choices afterwards if you want to.

Here's mine:

1979: Off The Wall Vs. Prince.

1982: Thriller Vs. 1999.

1987: Bad Vs. Sign "O" The Times.

1991: Dangerous Vs. Diamonds And Pearls.

1995: History Vs. The Gold Experience.

2001: Invicible Vs. The Rainbow Children.

My choice:

1979: Off The Wall Vs. Prince.

1982: Thriller Vs. 1999.

1987: Bad Vs. Sign "O" The Times.

1991: Dangerous Vs. Diamonds And Pearls.

1995: History Vs. The Gold Experience.

2001: Invicible Vs. The Rainbow Children.

I really like pop star Michael Jackson...

both Bad and Thriller are essentials, fantastic albums:

however he (MJ) just can't beat Prince. He (Prince) is more varied in styles,

Prince is (was) more funky:

Michael Jackson was great Prince was fantastic.

--- Both had their peak from 1979 to 1995.

Same winners for me, but one crucial difference overall is that I can't (and never could) stand Michael Jackson. I've never heard Invincible, and I can't stand The Rainbow Children, so I could consider that one a no-score draw.

What a great idea for a thread! Why not compare/contrast two GOATS?

1979 - I don't have Prince. I should have got that instead of B-sides. I'm gonna blame Eye Jester for that. cool Of course hard to judge therefore. But we must remember, MJ only wrote 2 songs solely on his own so in terms of production we could say MJ won, great album & the first track, out of this world, but made by that original Cameroon Saxophone sample! But of the 4 songs I have from Prince, all written by himself, artistry aware goes to Prince. Those songs are just as good as MJ's.

I982 - I also don't have 1999 and believe it or not, Thriller neither. I have four well known songs off 1999 & 4 fantastic songs from thriller (best of cds) but always found Beat it rather elementary sounding & also only 3 songs are written by MJ. I always resonated more with Prince when I was a teenager but my first exposure was PR. So here, no album can win.

1987 - MJ wrote most of these and what an album. SOTT - also good. SOTT title track absolutely brilliant. I prefer the songs on Bad to a degree but there are fewer and Prince wrote 'more' good tracks so it's tie here.

1991 - This is hard!!!! I really dig half of this album by MJ and oh man he was so gorgeous during this tour. foodnow MJ was funkier here than Prince who was more eccentric but how do you compare, 'heal the world, black or white' with 'cream, willing and able, strollin , d&p, live for love and money don't matter????' Ok Prince wins!

1995 - History. WOW!!! In terms of new songs, 'stranger in moscow, you are not alone (R.KellY), History, Earth song, Money, they don't care' I mean in terms of artistry, could it get any better? TGE - loses here. I'm really getting more and into this album, have fallen in love with Endorphinmachine, always loved Gold but the segues, make Prince lose this round. But really History is difficult to compete against. eek

2001 - Invincible - oh some gorgeous songs, even the simplistic ones, but not enough so TRC wins in terms of sheer musical journey.

1979: Off The Wall Vs. Prince. [Easily]

1982: Thriller Vs. 1999. [Close one, but Thriller is just that damn good]

1987: Bad Vs. Sign "O" The Times. [As much as I love Bad, Sign Takes this one nod]

1991: Dangerous Vs. Diamonds And Pearls. [Easily]

1995: History Vs. The Gold Experience. [Both were damn good...so I'd say it's a Tie.]

2001: Invicible Vs. The Rainbow Children. = Tie [neither one was all that good imo.]

I'm too lazy, I love all of mj's better than Prince's....but the strong songs and/or singles on Prince, 1999, Gold Experience are up there with mj, and sometimes give him a run for his money for a few minutes, cause he's that talented, though I can't digest every single song he's put out, but that is a compliment to Prince cause it simply means he produces art and I'm not going to like or understand all of it while someone else will like songs I don't and vice versa
