As an old Prince follower I have given up --- again,

Prince's music does not appeal to me anymore, I guess I am mainly here on the Org, because of boredom.

Even the boot recordings does not appeal to me anymore.

However/..... I still the OLD Prince music on WB. - 1978 to 1995.

yeah: "Eye No", I have said this all before, I guess a few times already.

But could you give me YOUR reasons for being a Prince fan in 2012 ???

I've had my moment of low also, and just hang in there till the moments of high come. Isn't that just like life itself?

My recent moments of high were 3121 and LotusFlower, which were pretty good if you ask me. And the ultimate highs were North Sea Jazz and Melkweg last year, which were epic without exaggeration.

But a new album is very, very welcome.

His old material is still worth a great amount if listening. That is enough for me. Old music that doesn't get old.

I'm still enjoying his studio output when he gives us some.

I guess for some it's just time to move on.

The vintage stuff that keeps on surfacing (and many times in astounding quality).

Ah, but it is.

Honestly, any music from this era is better than some of the complete Tony M bullshit from 1990 to 1993.

How you can tolerate something like "jughead" but rant in general against his all of his post 1995 material is beyond me.

Part of being a Prince fan is accepting the change. He could have stuck on the Purple Rain sound for a LONG time, but he didn't even stick on it for a second album. This can be frustrating, but without it we would have never ended up with Sign O' The Times.

What I do is not try to compare him to the past. I relax, have a little drink, put the headphones on, and guess what? There is still genious in these recordings.

So why do I still listen? Because I am still surprised, impressed, and sometimes enlightened by his music. Sometimes (and my wife totally does not get this) I'll laugh at a part of the song that is instrumental. I'll hear the sarcasim or humor in the music without the lyrics.

Jon Bream, in the new documentary, says that instead of peeling away the mystery he's just added to it, and that's why we're more fascinated than ever. I love the position that Prince has us in, where we totally do not know what he's going to do next.

Because it's still the same person who released SOTT, Parade, TGE, TRC and Emancipation. He just needs something major (anything) in his life to inspire him again, to find his old cockiness and create his own, unique, unconventional sound again, writing songs full of weird, unconventional, uncommercial chord changes, melody lines, experimental sounds and recording techniques, to find his own famous quirkiness again. His output has been very "safe" in the last couple of years and, while I still enjoyed this safer side of Prince (with the weirdness buried deep into the mix, á la Future Baby Mama, for instance), I am simply waiting for him to become flashy, extreme and quirky again (even if only musically).

I believe he can.

I guess for the same reason I'm still a Cowboys fan. I'm still waiting for Prince to win a superbowl again with a new album that kills, that blows away both the fans and critics alike, that I can play over and over and not get tired or bored of it within the first week. One that will win a Grammy and gain new fans...I can dream...

He is still a "MasterPiece" artist.....

I wouldn't include myself in your "us" because in my opinion, Prince is very predictable.

This is an attitude of ignorance i can't relate to at all. Kind of: "Everything sounds good to me, because I make myself believe the past and its achievements don't exist!"

This is so strange to me! The whole music evolution and quality discussion is based on the comparison of what was then and what is now.

Prince needs new people. He has never been as boring as he is nowadays.

I'm a big fan of his 80s music. That's all.

If you wonder, why I'm still on the org? It's mainly for entertainment reasons.

I think his current releases are FAR more interesting than any other pop music out....I'd take 'Cause and Effect' and 'PFunk' over anything on the Top 40 charts any day of the week. And don't get me started on 20ten....I think y'all are sleeping on some damn good songs.
