I used 2 like this one a lot back in 84 85 1980s
but if feels kind of light, not musically full like a lot of the PR tracks like its missing something

Yeah, it's great. The lyrics are very different from anything that he'd put on his own album, so I doubt he ever seriously considered keeping it to himself. It's got a somewhat similar vibe to "Extraloveable", at least to my ears.

So this is what I dont understand, how is it credited to Prince, firstly it says it was written under a pseudonym Jamie Starr, who credited it to Morris Day. First how is it known that Jamie Starr did this? and how could something like this be official? Either you wrote it, it appears with your name, or you didnt. If Prince had credited to Morris, how could it have been done under that psudonym?
Also, how does Princevault know that this actually happened? Do they have some paperwork?

The people at PV know their stuff. it's run/written by (some of) the same people behind The Vault/uptown, or it's based on info provided by them or something.

People that have researched these matters have had discussions with the engineers and other people involved in the sessions. It's common knowledge by this point that Prince did most of the songs for The Time and the ones that he didn't do sound quite different from the rest anyway.

Love this song - the synth line reminds me of "If I Was Your Girlfriend"

Also the royalties go to Prince and they're registered to his publishing (or whatever it is) at ASCAP right?
vinx98 - All this credits stuff has been sorted out years back, you just have to kind of get with the program - princevault.com (as well as earlier sources like Uptown etc) is on the money.

Vinx i play guitar for 17 years and i'm 30now. While Prince modifies his usual style on records by The Time it's definetly Prince on guitar on My Drawers.

ASCAP has him listed as the writer for My Drawers, but The Time under performers.

This is the jam. "Climb in my fur."

this is the best song on Ice Cream Castles,an album that I wasn't too crazy about.

I shocked you dont like it.
Its so damned energetic and rocking..and still remains funky/soulful. Big guitar riffs mixed with the souful synths...so hot imo.
Sounds like it would fit on Jesse Johnsons Review "Climb in my fur."

Def. the best song on the record for me. I feel like it's cut from the same cloth as Sex Shooter. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

My drawers (4:08) [lyrics]
On 26th and 27th March 1983, during the 2nd leg of [Prince]'s "1999"-Tour, [Prince] spends two days at Hollywood Sunset Sound to work with [Morris Day] and [Jesse Johnson] on tracks for THE TIME's third album. This was the first time, that some members of band were involved in the production process. They cut Jungle love, My summertime thang and an impromptu jam entitled Cloreen bacon skin, which was only released by [Prince] on his 1998 [Crystal Ball] album. My summertime thang finally didn't make it on this release, but a re-recorded version surfaced on THE TIME's 1990 reunion album [Pandemonium].
Starting on 27th December 1983, [Prince] relocates for four months to Los Angeles for some additional shootings to the "Purple Rain" motion picture and extensive recording sessions for his own "Purple Rain" album, and a new project called Apollonia 6 at Hollywood Sunset Sound. In January 1984 he also finished the work for THE TIME's third album by recording Ice cream castles and My drawers. Tricky, that appeared as the 7inch b-side of Ice cream castles, was recorded with [Morris Day] shortly thereafter in February 1984.

DisintegrationWhen it came to record The Time's third album, Ice Cream Castle, Prince's control was less firm than on previous albums with the group. This time, group members actually played on the record, and Morris Day and Jesse Johnson had a part in writing several songs.
However, there were dissensions in the studio, and guitarist Jesse Johnson, who was strongly involved in the project, was disappointed in Prince's strong control over the group, "He only let me write and produce on the last Time album because he knew I was quitting, and when I quit anyway he took my production credit off. I wrote, played and produced stuff like 'Jungle Love.'"
In April of 1984, after the album was completed, Morris Day left Minneapolis to settle down in Santa Monica, California. This was the beginning of the end for The Time. Jesse Johnson had already decided to leave the group and Morris was more interested in pursuing a solo career. Their departures weren't announced officially until after the premiere of Purple Rain.

According to a 1984 record at the US Copyright Office, there are two entries for My Drawers:
Item 1
My drawers.
Item 2 My drawers.
Look at the dates. Basically, the original entry at the USCO had Prince (as Jamie Starr) as the author. But this was changed three months later to note Morris Day as the author.
Whether Morris or Prince wrote it, only they know. But Prince (apparently) wanted to make sure Morris got paid. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"Let me clear up a few rumors while I have the chance," Prince told the Los Angeles Times. "One, my real name is Prince. Two, I'm not gay. And three, I'm not Jamie Starr."
"Jamie Starr is an engineer, the coproducer of our record. Of course he's real," says Morris Day, whose band now outplays whoever it was on the first Time record.
But if there is a Jamie Starr, why can't he be reached? Manager Steve Fargnoli says it's because he's "in and out of Minneapolis," because he's "a reclusive maniac" (like Prince) and because "it could be months before I see him." Can he be reached by phone? "No." Well, you wouldn't need to call him over to Prince's home studio if he's already there. "Prince is Jamie Starr" says former Warner Bros. artist and fellow Minneapolitan Sue Ann (Carwell), who has been a friend of Prince's for years -- ever since he wrote and produced her first demo tape. Others who are close to Prince also say that he is Jamie Starr, but they refuse to be quoted in print. But, says one, "everybody knows who's the main man behind everything."

If you search the ASCAP website for WorkID 430358393, it comes up as a Prince composition.
