So does the new single mean a new album is coming???

Any word on this yet? Any rumours?

RNR Love Affair has grown on me quite considerably. I'd really welcome a new Prince record right about now....

I want one too, but as we've seen with Prince, the answer to your question is "Yes. No. Maybe".

Considering something he said in an interview last month, most signs point to no. But who the hell really knows?

"Remember Betamax?" Prince says with a grin, referring to the outmoded video cassette format. "That's the system we've got now in the music business. We're in a singles market again. It's crazy for me to walk into that with a new album. Young people have decided they like to listen to music in a certain way, through ear buds, and that's fine with me as long as it doesn't bother them that they're not hearing 90 percent of the music that way. But I don't have to record to eat or to get out of debt or to pay my taxes. I looked forward to the day I could do this. Freedom is an interesting thing. You have to work really hard to get free."

Did a new album follow "Extralovable" last fall? Or "F.U.N.K" in 2007?

Those singles were not released on a physical format, though.

Not that that means there's a new album on the horizon, but let's think about it. Why would Prince bother spending the money on manufacturing CDs and (if what I hear is true) Vinyls on a one-off "throwaway" song?

Again, not saying this definitely means there's a new album, but I don't think he's doing this all for nothing!

So why hasn't he set up his own version of iTunes where you can buy the music from his own site, like the NPG site in the early 2000s, then he would have control over what is being released. He was always a step of the game, I find it bizarre that he is hiding it all away now.
A YouTube channel like Linkin Park's would be awesome!

er

Jumping Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Women were never on a Rolling Stones LP (except compilations) so releasing non album singles is not totally unique.
Hey, R&R Affair just might make it onto a Second Best of Prince cd!

The album was dead and buried when this came out, so it's the very definition of a throwaway single.

I wouldn't exactly call this throwaway, was this not released to promote the actual remixes themselves? I can understand paying for manufacturing/distribution if the single has remixes or something new to offer, but I don't see why Prince would do all that for the sake of ONE song

And, yes, the album was old news by the time this single/ep came out, but the song was still on an album. No matter how poor the timing, surely it still would have given Lotusflow3r some promotional boost? Or do the liner notes of the single not tell you what album the song is from?
